This is dependent on current grade also - will be higher for GEO4 than GEO5. No allowance for SEO. It's an annual sum, not given monthly.

For the actual list of numbers, try searching for the appointment letter on MOE intranet. It's not a lot - I remember it being around 1-3k per year?

Allowance amount:
GEO4 kp - $2500 per year, not per month
GEO5 kp - $1300 per year

SEO1 kp - no more such allowance

If i'm going to malaysia for holidays, do I need to apply for permission to leave sg during the school holidays?

Why are they given extra allowance for doing less things? All they do is arrow people to do things and they usually just walk around and socialise while the rest are busy working.

Yes and no.

If just going JB, no need.

If travelling on weekends and PH, no need

Outside of JB, and during weekdays, need.

Hi all, would like to ask.. if I left the service after 3 years of service, went out for many years before rejoining back again, would my previous 3years be taken into account in calculating 5 years/ 10 year long service award, or would I have to restart the counting again from my rejoining date onwards? Thanks!

Everything restart.

The only thing that don't restart is your salary. It will take into account your previous trained teaching experience. But it may not match your last drawn exactly. Could be slightly lower or higher.

How is years in service counted. Like if my NIE was from aug 2014 to Aug 2015 (practicum in early 2015), is 2015 counted as my first year in service? Cause I got my GEO 3 in 2016, cause of my NS.

Just curious about whether MOE can track our personal browsing history (eg if we are job hunting)/websites we visit if our Workpal apps are downloaded onto our personal devices?

Unregistered 03-10-2022 06:02 PM

1) don’t think they are so free to track ur surfing history as they know u can jolly well do it on other devices

2) technology wise, it’s rather difficult and involves use of pervasive cookies.

Hi, what are the repercussions of using our extended sick leave (beyond the 14 days of MC)? Many of my colleagues have been taking MC almost weekly and eating into their extended sick leave. School is super compassionate and people like me have been covering for them. 😖

Speak to your school leaders if you really feel this way. HR looks at all schools across the ministry and not just your school, and I like to believe that your observation is not sth that applies across all schools.

There is sth wrong with either your view of your colleagues or sth terribly wrong in your school if the officers in the same subgrade of GEO4/5 without appointments are actually doing more than those with key appointments.

You should be asking your school admin on this, as the practice may vary slightly across schools, unless your intent is to compare across schools.

So it works out to under $200 more per month (if you factor in the "guaranteed" 13 mth) or under $10 per day extra (for an average 22 working days per mth) for a GEO4 and nearly half for the GEO5.

Perhaps why there are teachers who prefer to be HOT (Happy Ordinary Teachers).

The only way to make middle management jobs worth it (monetarily) is to sit on the position for years and years, to give yourself enough time to climb to/near the top of the range.

Otherwise, HOT all the way. Top of the GEO5 scale is a respectable 8k plus now. To get C grade every year is really very easy. Why eat so much more shiat everyday and risk your backside doing firefighting every morning, evening and weekends just to draw 9k at SEO1?

Exactly. But you still get the occasional asswipe here bitching and moaning everytime they widen the GEO-SEO pay gap.

No repercussions. If they are really sick and has mc, who are we to penalise them? If you think that you are overloaded, ask your school to consider hiring RTs to cover these people.

Damn sian now. The GEO3 teachers that are just out of BT-ship are actually catching up in pay. SEO colleagues are widening the gap even further.

you will eventually get promoted to SEO1 given your appointment and performance, and as such will enjoy substantial pay jump when it happens, so just press on. the greater pay revision for SEO1 shld be good news for you actually, unless the internal HOD appt doesnt materialise (dont think so)

Probably maxes out at slightly over 9k? That would be the mid point between GEO5 and SEO1.

will the hr system raised the info to SL that a pay has reached the ceiling, hence promotion is due? would $20 away from the ceiling be considered as reached the ceiling already, cause MI would be probably a little more than $20? TIA

reaching/reached salary ceiling

hello, if after the salary revision, will the hr be informed or alert the SL that promotion is due because of reaching (about $20 away)/reached salary ceiling.
or are there cases of years (1-2 or more) stuck at salary ceiling?

Unregistered 05-10-2022 10:36 AM

promotion is "merit" based and not determined by reaching salary ceiling.

I think some people just assume that salary revisions is up to MOE HR to decide. It is guided by principles that are similar across all ministries as PSD has the final say, especially since the money still comes from the taxpayers money.

Those pple who complain should really understand how the MX scheme revision has been. It is similar that the lower subgrades and higher subgrades have a larger increment.

The likely explanation is higher attrition at both the lower and upper subgrades, as pay increments at public service level has to be backed by statistics and numbers. Not some conspiracy theory that the top decides to pay themselves more money.

The whining stems from people taking an egocentric perspective rather than appreciating it from a national policy perspective. No policy decision can please everyone, and unless those getting the short end of the stick expand their view, they will always be hyper-focused on what they got vs. what others got, and will always wallow in unhappiness.

$20 off from ceiling means not at ceiling right? My guess is still have to wait out at least one more year??

Just because you reach the ceiling doesn't mean you are due for promotion.
