GEO4 subject head(confirmed) + HOD(internal) here. A grade for past 3 years but still waiting for promotion. Salary has been crawling very slowly. Even A grade merit increments in Apr 2021 and 2022 were 160-180 max. These MI quantums used to be given for C or C+ grades. RA for SH is peanuts.

Damn sian now. The GEO3 teachers that are just out of BT-ship are actually catching up in pay. SEO colleagues are widening the gap even further.

How many years in service? & how long have you been in GEO 4?

This is really very sad. I'm very shocked at the MI for A grades. For outstanding performance and efforts, that amount is really not justified.

Connect plan

Just wondering, will the 2 yrs of NS count towards the years in the CONNECT plan?

I'm not the OP but yes, the merit increments during covid years were depressed by a LOT. Last time C grade can give you $170 at geo3, geo4. Last time B grade is easily 200+. Now you want 170? Minimum B grade.

No.
After the initial BT years where I slogged so hard, I’ve learnt to take work easy.
Just do the bare minimum and leave work.

NSman here, my first trained posting started in June 2017 and was confirmed to service in June 2018. My 'CONNECT Year 4' payout was paid in December 2021.

So I guess it counts? Is connect year supposed to start from NIE graduation, or from confirmation year?

So, you finished your practicum in June 2018?

I think they count the yrs only if you are a trained teacher in the force for the complete whole yr so in your case, 2019 seems to be the 1st yr

Not so easy sometimes with bosses, colleagues, students able to text you even after you leave work about urgent matters

Sometimes it's colleagues who spoil market. I have younger colleagues who are damn free to reply students' and even parents' texts at 11pm, or Sundays. It gradually becomes an expectation when people get used to being able to text teachers for trivial things 24/7. Suddenly, protecting one's own off-work hours makes you look lazy or uncaring.

Unregistered 01-10-2022 03:11 PM

Anyone else's sch leaders explicitly expect teachers to mark exam scripts over weekends? As in, they explicitly say that the total number of days allowed for marking before the cockpit deadline includes weekends?

Bloody rubbish that some exams are held on Friday but the internal cockpit deadline is the following Monday and they have the cheek to say that we have 3.5 days to mark.

Does your school practice common marking? This is not a norm, at least not that I know of. When setting deadlines, KPs will usually flag out such concerns and adjust the duration given to teachers to ensure that marking and keying in of results can be done accurately.

I feel you. I’ve gotten A for the last three years and the increment was peanuts. As an appointed HOD, I am still at geo 5, 4 years and counting. The 5% increment is another blow. While the non-appointment holders have geo 5A to cushion the cruel decision, KPs at geo 5 can only swallow it.

The KPs have no power. Our P is a bulldozer and gets things done their way or the highway. KPs are shut down when they try to argue against such things. We really need 360 appraisal systems..

LOL. No. Full years as a trained teacher only. So even if practicum was in Mar 2019, your first full year will be 2020. Meaning you get your payout in Dec 2023

Just wondering how you pass information to your students if you don’t have a WA chatgroup with them

there’s always google chat or google classroom
or telegram as the last resort
the google platforms are tied to the students icon email too.
there are also mobile app (unlike SLS)
and those info on google chat or google classroom can also quickly converted or forwarded as email to prove to students that info has been sent black and white
again, you can mute notifications outside of working hours
or just not reply during your own well bring/self care time

all the above does not involve mobile numbers

1st year of teaching I gave out my number to have open comms with parents. Coz I rather they go through me than to my SLs. BIG MISTAKE. Even with boundaries made clear, some kuku parents still message AND expect a prompt reply after hours. Worse still, I became a messenger for them. Whatever they forgot to tell that kid that morning, they tell me to tell them. Worse still got parents expect me to reply to her to confirm that I passed her message to her son. One kind one.

Now I don't bother. Any homework or reminders, whiteboard & student diary are enough. It teaches kids responsibility as well. You never write, too bad. Go sort it out yourself or ask your classmates. Parents can only contact me via email. Email as a medium is still formal, so a lot of thought has to be put in by the parents before they send it. Hence, if they send, it's usually urgent or important.

You can't tell them in class?

You give a lot of last-minute instructions?

Kp interview

Hi all, just wana check if any KPs here who went for interview,

- how long do you have to wait till you get your results (pass or fail)
- any bond or agreements to uphold? Or you can just quit after interview even haha

Don't remember the answer to the first (I don't recall it taking very long - might be the day itself or after), but you're expected to stay with the school for 3 years after appointment (unless posted elsewhere by MOE). This only applies if you stay in service - no bond to the organisation as a whole.

Be optimistic. Your pay raise as Geo5 cum Hod, is in the form of A performance bonus.

And, as Hod, you do enjoy power :)
Hod, can know and do ranking for up to SEO1 people, ie the SH/LH/ST/AYH.

You will usually know the results on the day of the KP interview.
After official appointment in the same sch, you need to stay in the school for 2 years before you can apply for OPE/PDL etc. If you are appointed in a different school through OPE, then you will need to stay in the school for 3 years.
