As a regular/dxo you have access to a lot information than you potentially could as a NSman. You need a the G50 to apply for a OSN. |
Questions
Hello all,
Being a DXO has always been my dream. It was just too bad that I couldn't sign on because of some medical condition. I graduated in 2018, and I have tried for MINDEF every year since then. Currently, I am working in another Ministry. So I would like to seek some inputs on the burning questions I have: 1) Are public servants/civil servants considered more favourably when it comes to DXO selection? 2) The official stance is that the PT results are valid for 1 year. However, I have heard rumours that even though HR will allow you to take PT again after 1 year (if you had failed), you still wouldn't be able to make it past PT stage for 3 years straight. How true is that? Anyone failed to be a DXO, tried again the subsequent year and got in? 3) Which positions are less hot? Would want to maximise my chances this time round. Realized that I might have been rejected in the previous years because I have indicated traditionally popular and competitive posts like DPO and Defence Relations. Thanks yáll! |

2) There is no pass/fail with your PT. HR uses it as a tree-shaking element, you can do considerably well on the test but still get rejected because other applicants scored higher. Similarly, a “weak” PT performance can go through if the pool is generally non-competitive. 3) Relevancy here is key. Make sure your current experiences can be translated to the role applied. i.e. A research assistant at ISEAS will have an easier time applying for a role in the policy office. MINDEF is a great place to settle down. With that being said, mid-career professionals are heavily gunning for spots. Rest assured the process is meritocratic. MINDEF will always favour applicants who have relevant experiences. |

2. Time and Space. Just try your best for those PT. HR will contact you again if they need you to take it again. Having said that if you failed moer than 3 years, they might just not shortlist you for it because i have heard my friend discussing about his unit taking into account of PT scores. 3. Should follow your interest or experience or academic experience, rather than applying for jobs that are less hot. Granted the policy and data roles are extremely competitive because of its nature.. try those in the ‘other’ sections like training related appointment should have more chance to do so... but if your experience doesnt fit, then it is unlikely they would consider you unless desperate. Good luck. |
Hi, may i know if i owe credit card money and under DRS (Debt repayment scheme), can i still apply for a dxo position? thanks

Hello, if I'm a NUS, FCH, with NS fresh grad, approx what's the starting salary I can expect? Also, does DXO generally pay better than other ministries (MX)? Thank you! :)

You’ll start off as an entry level manager (DX10) drawing a gross of 4K+/- depending on which department you sign. Fortunately, MINDEF no longer discriminate pay between classification of honours anymore. Though having a stellar academic record might give you a push towards working in the Defence Policy Office, which is the most prestigious dept for a fresh DXO grad. |

Starting off as DX9 - Asst Mgr for fresh grad entry-level, and 4k+ is about right. Not sure about the 'no longer discriminate' part - it existed when i joined last year. Baseline is higher because of work related to defence. Broadly similar to stat board for starting, but not as high as specialist scheme (engineer, laws, economics, statisticians and etc in Ministry and SB) and not as high as uniform scheme (hahahah). |

does mindef offer MX schemes too? what's the diff between their DXO and MX scheme, if they do offer MX scheme?
|
Quote:
MINDEF directly employs for DXO scheme. |

DXO FCH NUS with NS should be around 4 - 4.4k maybe? Not sure if packages would be smaller this year due to the current economic performance - may be expecting a pay cut across civil service. :( If that happens, they would still offer you the 'intended' amount and take away the variable amount (about 10%). |

if you never borrow from underground, then should be alright, meanwhile continue when possible to make regular payments and reduce it as much as you can until the day you sign the contract. |

be back to normal. |

G50 is done only after you are offered where they will process clearance and stuffs. Good luck! |

The only exception to this are public service officers seconded to MINDEF (i.e. FSOs in the Defence Relations) or government scholars (i.e. PSC, SGS, SmartNation and etc.) |
Sovereign movement in SG
Question - can I declare to be a sovereign and not serve NS? Or why is there one rule for FTs/CECAs and another for NS-serving Singaporeans? Is our defence budget wasted by not protecting Singaporeans against FTs/CECAs foreign ideologies?

I want a DXO job so badly :(
Currently a civil servant in a Ministry.
I tried for MINDEF 2 years ago when I was about to graduate, but I didnt even make the cut after PT. HR was frank - my PT results were good but my academic qualifications were not relevant to the position that I had applied for. This year, I tried again. Applied for a position that is closer to my academic qualifications and experience. Because of the covid-19 pandemic, I suspect that psychometric tests/selection interviews are being suspended. So really looking forward to the email informing me to go for PT once this whole shenanigans subside. Have a couple of questions for you DXOs: 1) Could there be a more than 1 vacancy for a position? Asking this because... I applied for Position A in April. HR got back to me to tell me whether I am keen in Position B too. Reason was that while they would process the applications for both positions, they would move on to process the application for Position B if I am not further shortlisted for Position A. I realized that Position A was advertised way back in January. Most likely they would have identified a candidate already. Position B was advertised in March. So I was thinking, could it be that the advertisement for Position A was not taken down after so long because there are more than 1 vacancies to be filled? (Both positions are HR-related jobs. Based on the job descriptions, it seems like both deal with public relations as well like fronting the public. Which is kinda similar to my current job. In my Ministry, we have a large team of people doing such work viz communicating policy positions to public. Sometimes when we hire there are more than 1 vacant positions) 2) Are some positions easier to get in than others? |

can I ask how long it takes to go from AM DX9 to DX10?

You need 2x band II to be eligible. However, there's also bosses who insist lesser achievements get promoted. So my simple answer is, third year in a new posting. |
what are the bonuses a typical DXO receives? and also, on average how many months of bonus an average DXO typically gets? (includes anything apart from the 12 months base)
|
Quote:
CS Mid-year Jun CS Year-end Dec PB An average person last year would get AWS - 1 CS Jun - 0.45 CS Dec - 0.1 PB - About 1 - 1.3 (C grade) In the above, around 2.5 - 2.9 for an average performer in last year economy. |

Been going close to 2 weeks but no reply/answer for the result of 1st interview, assume no news = unsuccessful? |
