Now govt also clever. Good package goes to those that need to use brains and high pressure (also longer hours) don't confuse long hours with retail hours. Long hours refers to beyond 9 hours daily, beyond what your contract stipulates.

Overall, ministry tend to be more stressful and longer hours, tend to translate into bigger bonuses. Govt all look forward to bonus. The basic is so-so. However stat board like IHL tend to pay well for low experience. Thus those high experience start to complain the past 2 years.

Not a straightforward answer because it's not a straightforward situation. Even same organisation different dept can be different coz the boss fight for it.

The past 5 years, Major at the end of career, is very sad and low. LTC by the 35 for a good performer non scholar. These good performers get bonded for higher degree and get rotated into various dept.

Nowadays ntu nus honours hundreds every year, not so great anymore. Those bonded with scholarship especially overseas one, are the real fast track.

I know some of these people, it's my humble opinion and data. If only I studied harder and didn't believe in the nonsense parents and school fed me about passion and interest.

Ask your peers, after 4 years I'm sure you know each other well enough to be open about this when you meet up.

Else, Search the forum with keywords fch, offered, desired field; tada! Answered.

Just found this forum and sharing my progress as reference. I am a diploma holder who was converted to one scheme when at a SB and then moved around after that. It's true that switching jobs gives higher salary jump, esp when I switched to private. I am MX11 and this probably is my ceiling grade unless current SB sees potential in me. In any case, not ambitious and this is comfortable. I'm not a jlb please, I work comparatively as hard as and deliver as well as the hi-pos, exceed mgt expectations sometimes. But diploma at the end of the day is still a diploma in one scheme.

Year Salary
2008 2679 Join SB
2009 2795 SB
2010 2916 SB
2011 3175 SB - promotion
2012 3475 SB
2013 3617 SB
2014 3965 SB - promotion to one-scheme
2015 4279 SB
2016 5600 Switch to private
2017 5950 Switch to another SB
2018 6179 SB
