I worked in HR in one of the ministries and very very few people make more than 120k per annum at 33 (non-scholar). 95% of them are still struck at MX11 at that age and the average annum salary of MX11 is around 90k. Their salary is around the top 10% of their age group which we benchmark against.

Working in HR, I know the real 'young' high-flyers' (earners or the top 5%) (whom we are extremely jealous of) and most do not seem like anyone who will 'waste time' on forums to ask about 'how they are doing' (we literally tell them their progression because all of them are very aggressive in doing well and wanting to know their progress) or boast about their high-earning ability in such forums.

And since we gossip quite a lot as well, being in HR, we can roughly guess who are the ones boasting here (if their story were indeed true). So their identity is actually not a secret. lol.

I'm 32, no ns. Getting 100k in mx11. Is this considered average?

Let me show u how the 120K is attained at age 33.

Performance bonus = 3 months cos i got a B this year.
Mid year bonus = 0.5...and i am discounting the additional 500
13th month or whatever they call it = 1 month, which is standard
End-of-year bonus = 0.7...this is a very conservative assumption, if u are aware of the amount the govt paid out over the last few years

With that the total bonus = 5.2

In all, there would be 12 + 5.2 = 17.2 months of salary.

Divide 120K by 17.2 and u will get 7K.

Is 7K at age 33 achievable if one joins the civil service right from the beginning? U wont bet against it....unless u arent from HR.

LOL

So with such progression, how much do u think u will be getting in 5 yrs time?

We want to meet for 7pm dinner on a weekday, some friends say still working, 8pm can? By 8pm we are done and going for dessert. Over time your friends start to gravitate towards a certain group of people. Those who are working hard and making lesser slowly fall off, they hang out with their own colleagues who also work late together with them.

We are in a mix of finance and IT industries. IT is everywhere now and if you can use IT to make the company even more money, they are happy to pay you too. It cannot be compared with the traditional finance roles where bankers and financial analysts at places like GIC and Temasek make 5 digit monthly salaries from the start, but you're starting at 5k when your peers start with 3k on average.

In 5 years time who knows what will happen? Life priorities change, some might have mid career crisis and decide to change industries or try something new.

The lion only speaks once and tells the ultimate correct information.
The dogs (plenty of them) keep barking thinking that their noise and false information will create confusion.

The lion does not have to respond to such noise for he is the King of the Jungle.
