No...local masters no use...in most cases cs wont even pay you more for masters

I’m moving to mas from ministry, and realise my salary is going to jump 20%. Wow

My friend mentioned that MAS incorporated part of their bonus into your monthly gross salary.

overseas masters also no use. and i agree with the replies above: CS don't pay more for masters unless it is absolutely relevant to the role you are doing, and maybe for CEP adjustment you must go through their sponsorships than to go for it yourself.

otherwise, seems like the fairest way to be fundamentally assess everyone based on their bachelor degree qualification (because it shouldn't penalise people who didnt do a higher degree because others self select themselves to do it), and then the rest is your ability and potential on the job.

so getting a higher level degree to 'cover' the so-so bachelor degree won't work much tbh.

Getting a CEP upgrade or PSLP (nomination) is simply.....up to the Head of Department/Senior Director. It is as straightforward as that.

Not a matter of overseas masters, local masters.

agreed, so dont bother going for a masters just for the sake of CEP upgrade because it may not happen.

Unregistered 04-08-2019 02:44 PM

Adding on, what will make the HOD/SD pick a certain staff among so many people. Well, it has to be the staff who always support him in all the EXCO meetings, briefings to Perm Sec, presentations to Min etc.

That's where the real battle is fought.

Not some silly paper certs.

Thanks for the great advice
Basically, just work hard and support the boss well

That’s it right
No masters/post grad required
If grades are so so, same thing? Any way to bump CEP?

yes, not silly certs, but silly papers and minutes that requires an inordinate amount of time

Unregistered 05-08-2019 03:18 PM

u are finally getting it now.

for infor, in many ministries, secretariat duties for high level meetings are undertaken by PSLP and high-CEP folks.

the ability to follow and understand complex issues that are discussed, and write them in a coherent and comprehensible......is most desirable.

how about does a overseas or local uni masters help to get a higher position or seek better salary when applying to join a statboard or a ministry in cs?

Unregistered 06-08-2019 07:28 PM

Hi..

Background: im not an engineer.
Been working for about 6 years since I graduate from my degree , SIM UOL 3rd class.

Current salary : 3950

Not sure what else to share. Applied job with LTA and they going to offer soon.
Just wondering how much can I expect from LTA for an Assistant Manager position?

Unregistered 06-08-2019 07:30 PM

Annual salary currently around 70k by the way

Again, unless the position specially ask for a masters or at least related to role then you get a better chance of being shortlisted or considered for the job. But just for salary negotiation, no. HR told me before that they don’t pay for a masters unless the job asks for it.

If you have job experience and if the masters is relevant to the job, maybe then you nego for like a middle mgt role (senior or principal enginner etc)

Better than MX. Not as good as uniformed.

No difference in pay. Difference in trajectory and CEP. Rare for Functional track to become Ambassador. But can still reach superscale 9 or 8.

Unregistered 07-08-2019 09:41 AM

How did one manage to get a 3rd class from SIM. i thought everyone gets a first class by sleeping through.

hi all, i value work-life balance a lot

which stat boards generally have that culture in place?

NParks? NLB?

Unregistered 08-08-2019 10:05 AM

Job hunting

Curious to know. Anyone has an idea of the current salary range for a FCH from NUS in the civil service sector (engineering)?

Don't have anymore. Due to headcount freeze, my impression is that most people are handling what used to be the workload of 2-3 ppl. I may b wrong, but there seems to be a shift from emphasis on work life balance in support of families to achieving maximum KPIs nowadays.

Fyi specialist schemes like the Foreign Service Scheme pay bonuses differently. So even assuming the monthly pay is the same (which is not possible), they would have a larger annual package.

Also, these specialist schemes can get salary adjustments across the board without having to wait for civil service wide pay adjustments.
