I have a subordinate who has openly told me that he intends to apply for a job in civil service. He is a slightly below average performer and in all honesty, based on his current performance, his future in our firm is not bright. For context, I have 4 others in the team - they are all excellent.

I generally try my best to part on good terms with all ex-colleagues (doesn't matter rank). Our industry is small and you never really know what the future holds. Karma can be quite a bitch afterall.

This subordinate tho.... he throws it in my face that he has applied for and gotten an interview for a civil service job in our field .... it almost seems as though he thinks he is great to have gotten an interview and that he's for sure going to get an offer and going to be better than all the rest of us.

His attitude has become flippant and the quality of his work has plummeted. I've pretty much had to redo his work for him to meet deadlines ever since he announced his interview.

This is the first time i've encountered such a situation....

I feel like telling him .... he needs to be more 'seng mok' and he shouldn't destroy bridges after crossing them. I also want to tell him that in all likelihood, civ service will require of him higher standards and have tougher working conditions than what he has been through in our firm... he cannot coast by being a below average performer... maybe he should try and work harder here to better himself since he hasn't gotten an offer yet....

but... would i be overstepping my boundaries? would this be too harsh? we are all millennials but the other 4 millennials are great! i just dont understand. Everyone is fighting hard to keep their jobs...this is just... unbelievable to me.

Jiaowei lah, civil service is even more jlb than private sector

My question is if it’s possible to make a jump to a ministry or a stat board like edb and get a 10-15% increment? What MX level would I be pegged at?

Thinking of serving fellow Singaporeans!

Pay you 80k you want?

I don't think they mentioned how this scheme differs from mx scheme! I guess it's probably mostly similar. Also, I'm second upper local degree, female no NS. Now abit worried that pay may be lowered when letter of appointment is prepared, since someone above said their pay offer changed.

Thanks for clarifying! What do you mean special support?

My guess is that joining as 11a or 10, from the private sector, are relatively rarer. I suppose those are DD positions?

Will he get the same salary at mx11 though?

I looked at the salary range and it’s below.

Assuming 15 months package is 125k. This is lesser than his/ her annual package of 145k

MX11 (Middle Management) $4,740 to $8,305

Hi all, is it normal for someone age 30 with only freelance experience to be offered mx12 scheme instead of mx13? Pay is still in the 3000 range. What is the difference? Will it be harder to promote at mx12?

Wow that is really abysmal. Might as well stick to freelance.

Cos they say they are unable to recognise the freelance work experience, so it's like starting as fresh grad. I don't mind actually. But was just wondering why it is mx12 instead of mx13? Does anyone have any idea?
