Exxon Mobil Equipment tech or Operations Tech?

Hi guys , recently i went for Exxon mobil interview at tuas Refinery.

Any bros here can share info on Equipment tech or Operations Tech salary and
working life.

The interviewer said that my qualifications are more suitable for equipment tech.
i hold dip in mechanical engg

very likely that i will get a position as equipment tech. i have some info abt the interview itself

hopeful 11-05-2013 12:14 AM

Operations tech need to know a great deal about plant processes, various plant equipment, line setting, permit issuing, hazards identification etc.. responsibility is great and have to do shift work.

Equipment tech are specialist in various plant equipments, which they need to do repair and overhaul.

Personally I think that operations tech experience is more valuable and not forgetting that the attractive shift allowance. However one must be able to adapt to shift life.

Maxco 11-05-2013 01:19 AM

Thanks for the info bro.

Ya the shift allowance is very attractive, is abt 1k i believe.

The thing that worries me, will the equipment tech seen as part of the company or just someone who supports the operation.

In manufacturing the machine operators are seen as the 'customers' while the
equipment tech needs to 'serve' the manufacturing.

More info appreciated from all the bro's

Unregistered 20-05-2013 10:29 PM

Sorry to interrupt..

As what i knew is that process/operation tech is the one who will be operating all the units or machine.
And for maintenance/equipment tech will do all the repairing/trubleshoot work once the process/operation tech calls for help..

I will start working with exxon on 1st july..hope to see any of u there.

Maxco 21-05-2013 08:40 PM

How much starting pay they are giving you

and what position...

thx bro

hopeful 22-05-2013 12:39 AM

I believe for fresh diploma is $1800 basic plus $980 shift allowance for ops tech, equipment tech no idea..

Maxco 26-05-2013 05:26 PM

i heard a shift foreman ( a lady) earning $9000, but cannot do any OT....

hi bro, im from aviation line thinking of switching to exxonmobil as tech due to low advancement , slow increment, almost everyday spend at work without much family time and taking on average 2.5k-3k mthly after 8yrs in service in my current job running on 8hrs shift work plus pathetic controlled OT = unstable income or little family time. i seen n heard some news abt EM that there is 12hrs shift but im not sure which tech having the 12hrs swift to choose as there is a few eg. operation tech, analyzer tech, equipment tech, machinery tech, laboratory tech but i dun see any process tech like i seen in other oil company. so with irrelevant job experience to switch over, therefore need advice from u kind guys who r in EM already. any idea when r their recruitment closing date?

Operations tech are the ones doing the 12hour shifts. Process tech = operations tech, they are the same thing.

I went for the ExxonMobil interview and pass without any relevant experience, so I think it's more on how you present yourself to be a good fit for the job. Didn't take up the job in the end as I decided on another oil company.

vin 03-06-2013 12:02 AM

oh i see.. but isnt exxonmobil the best pay and other benefits in oil trade? i have seen quite a number of other oil company having recruitment with some giving higher pay than ExxonM, but bonuses and benefit might not as good maybe, tis im uncertain as well. how long they take to reply after u send over ur resume? any tips abt the questions being ask by them? actually a group of my current team wanted to switch over too as they heard rumors tat @ exxonMobil its very good pay n having balance working life, but all r not sure how true it is.

tangwp 11-06-2013 12:09 AM

Anyone can share their interview experience at EM? What is the question they asked? I got an interview on next week from 8am to 12pm. Is that they will complete 1st and 2nd interview in one day if shortlisted?

Hi bros,

I have applied for ops tech for more than 3months ago and still hoping that they will call me up for an interview. My buddies told me some of them waited for 4 months before getting one. But too bad by then, they have already gotten a job with another oil company.

Anybody here has been waiting for 3-4 months for their call for interview?

Applied for EM

Hi guys, i just applied for ops techs for EM on 5th of June. Read that some of you guys waited for month  meaning i won't be hearing from them any time soon i guess.

I have a diploma in IT, definitely not relevant to oil/gas industry but i am working in the shipping port as a senior operations supervisor for close to 4 years. Hopefully that will help boost my chances to be an ops tech in EM.

exxonmobil ops tech interview

hi, just went for an ops tech interview today. the interviewer nv ask me for any qualifications or anything. he just ask me to define what is safety, honesty and teamwork. and briefly describe myself. do u think I stand any chance? I hold a diploma in info comm technology which is done in the singapore polytechnic engineering sch and I have some work experience as a firefighter and from a big electronics manufacturing mnc. I scored b3 in my o levels for maths english and physics/chemistry. do u think I stand a chance?

marcwkm 20-06-2013 11:12 PM

wow

Dude, you got diploma in IT?? wow same as me. maybe i stand a chance liao. u alr got called up for the interview, sure stand a chance man!

i still yet to hear from them :(

Sk8terboi 21-06-2013 12:40 PM

Exxonmobil interview

To wow: yeap. Got interview. Because i passed my o levels. Think even if accepted i will be drawing o levels pay. So far no news. Did u passed ur o levels maths english and chemistry? And any experience in high end production? If yes then maybe stand a chance. But i think my chance is not high. Because got alot of interviewees got diploma in chemical process. One was even an intern with them. Usually they confirm the hire on the spot. So think my case is gone :(

marcwkm 21-06-2013 01:11 PM

huh, i tot you mentioned you have a diploma?

Ya i have a diploma and pass all my subjects in O levels.

Unregistered 21-06-2013 01:34 PM

Take it positively!

Take some positivity about it. The fact that you were invited for the interview among all others simply means its half the battle won. Even If you didnt get it, at least you know you did your best.

Im having my interview this coming monday. Good luck to you and me.

Anyways, I was just wondering, the interview is to last at least 4hrs, You mind sharing the whole interview programme?

marcwkm 21-06-2013 01:37 PM

:( when did you apply for the job? All of you already got called up, i am still waiting for news......sad

Unregistered 21-06-2013 01:42 PM

I applied somewhere in February. I just got the call last week. almost 4 months.

Been reading up alot in this forum. Mostly all diploma, Mine NITEC only. All the best to me!

LOL!

marcwkm 21-06-2013 01:45 PM

doesnt matter bro. most of all these jobs you wont know anything. we all learn thru on job training. the only difference is the starting pay since you only have Nitec, but what matters most is getting into EM.

Good luck for your interview.

Sk8terboi 21-06-2013 01:55 PM

Interview

Yeap. I have a diploma in computer engineering field. But sunce its not related, they ask me for my o levels whether i passed chemistry or not. Doesn\'t matter if u r a nitec or dip. Just go for it. I applied somewhr in march.

Unregistered 21-06-2013 02:08 PM

Dont give up just yet bro Marc. Ive attempted this application since I was 24 yrs old and only now at 28 i get a chance for an interview. If you didnt get this time, You might want to look at your CV and resume again and get someone to proof read them?

Best of luck!

Sk8terboi 21-06-2013 03:46 PM

The whole interview is 4 hours. First a plant tour followed by interview. A total of 6 of us. So if u r the lucky one u will be the last when the interviewer is kinda switched off and uninterested. Best wishes to all bros! Hope u guys get lucky! I rmb if not wrong they will confirm u on the spot like the 1 before me in the interview selection process. Keep this thread going. I m kinda sad, but my froend who is working there says its actually a blessing in disguise. Don\'t know why he says that until really experience then know. Hope u guys get selected and all the best to all bros!

Unregistered 21-06-2013 04:30 PM

So I supposed its either you clinched the job there and then or its the typical \'We\' will call you if you are selected\' kinda thing huh...

Anyways, thanks for the heads up!

marcwkm 21-06-2013 07:40 PM

Really? What i heard from my frens are there will be a second interview and a test before they select you.

Never heard of immediate hire on the spot, that is quite depressing when you realize that you aint selected that day itself.

Bro 4 years then they call you up? Seriously...EM seems to like the number 4 alot. Anyway did you get the job?

Unregistered 22-06-2013 12:40 AM

I applied for every single openings available each year..only this time i received an interview invitation from them.

I hope i make the best out of it this monday. Just like you, i wanted this job badly.

sk8terboi 22-06-2013 01:27 AM

u want the job badly because of the pay right? the high shift allowance right? hehe.. we all work for the common thing $ in this world. I seriously nv knew there is a second interview. I tot is hire on the spot. just asking. is it true that we can hit 4k gross salary at exxonmobil? any bros here knows how long does it takes for them to recontact u?

Sicness 24-06-2013 01:16 AM

Woohoo.. got an email from them n they asked me to come down for an interview.. the call came from an overseas number, Thailand to be exact... the HR from there... feeling excited and nervous at the same time.. it\'s been 4mths of waiting for their reply... i\'ve applied for operation technician.. hope to get to know the pros n cons of an operation technician...

marcwkm 24-06-2013 08:29 AM

Sicness, whats your highest qualification?

UnregisteredB 24-06-2013 07:43 PM
