But basically the females in my PGDE batch have not been promoted yet. Which is expected given that the lag time is usually 1 year behind as they have no accumulated Years in Civil Service |

Advice needed
Hi forum readers, I would like to seek your advice on something regarding being in MOE.
Background: - Male - Dec 2016 joined service and started as the first batch of the 16mths PGDE program - Completed practicum in Term 1 2018, officially trained and confirmed in service in Term 2 2018. Performance Grade: 2019: C(was promoted to GEO 3 in april 2019) 2020: B Recent 2021: A (notified that I am promoted to GEO 4 this april 2021) Recently I was notified that I was promoted as GEO 4 coming April this year. And it really caught me by surprised because I know I am indeed very very lucky to be promoted after seeing some of my peers and through the forum thread. I have been looking at this post regularly and I would consider myself really fortunate in terms of having a supportive RO and school leaders. There is nothing I can complain about and I am grateful for the opportunity given to helm projects and as well as sharpening my T&L skills through good mentors. Recently, I came to know about a program called Future Leaders Program (FLP) which some scholars were "automatically" emplaced and I would like to know, whether, and how will HR select people to be in FLP apart from scholars? Like everyone else, I do my very best, and my focus has always been leveling my students and simply be with them. At the same time, I also place great emphasis on my own PD and hence I am wondering, i am interested in being in FLP, but have no idea how to go about doing it? I have previously spoken to my RO about it, and it was mentioned it is centrally managed by HR. As a young officer, I have tried to do my best and still have the burning passion to excel strive for the best that I can do here in the ministry, and I think my grades do show to some extent the value of work i am doing - of course with the support of good mentors and RO. Just wondering, would it help to email HR to find out more? I am currently posted to HQ and I know, with this recent promotion to GEO 4, the competition is way higher and as hard as I can try, I know my performance grade may not be as good given the level of competition that I have read about through the forum. Could I get some advice on this? thank you. |
Hi all,
I got notified on Friday that I will be promoted to GEO 4 this April. Here are some details Completed NS 2nd Upper BA (Ed) Entered service in 2017 Jun My grades since entering service: 2018: C (promoted to GEO 3 in Oct) 2019: C 2020: B 2021: A (promoted to GEO 4) My colleague said I am faster than the 'normal' group of people. Is that true? Also, anyone can share what is the step-up between GEO 3 to GEO 4 in terms of responsibilities and expectations, and how to progress upwards to GEO 5? |

Can anyone verify this statement? Those who have been promoted before in April can help to verify if the increment (not annual increment) only comes in at October? |
Looks like many are getting promoted this year...Congrats to all! :)
Meanwhile, I didn't receive any news of promotion...So I guess it's another year of waiting...Hopefully I'll get mine next year haiz |
Advice needed
Hi I would like to seek your advice on this:
A little background: I entered service in Dec 2016, the first batch of 16mths PGDE. Started my practicum Term 1 2018 and officially as trained teacher is Term 2 2018. Male, completed NS. Performance grade 2019: C (promoted to GEO 3 due to NS I guess) 2020: B 2021: A (promoted to GEO 4, as of April 2021) I have read the forum and I am indeed lucky to have supportive RO and mentors who were willing to guide me and helped me along the way as a you g BT. I have recently moved to HQ and got to know through some peers about the future leaders program (FLP). From what I understand, there were some scholars who were already automatically emplaced into the program. Just wondering if there’s a chance for non scholars to join? I have spoken with my RO and the response I am told was that it’s centrally managed by HR As a young officer, I think I have tried my best to do my job welll in T&L as well as putting my students interests first. I think my grades does provide affirmation of the work I’ve done and I must be grateful that my school culture is a supportive one with nice mentors to guide me. I’m passionate in what I do and I hope I can continue to do so. I am also proactively taking charge of my own PD, which is why I am hoping to know what does FLP entails and whether can non scholars be part of it? After reading the various recent thread, I know Im considered very lucky to have been promoted and I’m also surprised that I got it as I know moving from GEO3 to 4 is not an easy one and really depends of having a good RO and school leaders. Can anyone advice on the FLP? Should I try emailing HR? Thanks! |

Just keep working hard and maybe seek open posting to HQ positions in future. |

Why different timing is coz of Years in Service. In the past, there used to be two NIE batches- Jan batch and July batch. Jan batch enters sch in Jan, so they will fulfil certain years in service before April Promotion. July batch enters sch only in July, so they cannot fulfil years in service by April; hence the October promotion. The promotions cater to the above scenarios too. Nowadays, most would enter the sch after practicum in March, so usually should be promotion in April. Of course, there are also those in PGDE PE, who enters only sometime in Term 3, so their promotion could be in October instead. |

Largely in GEO 4, you need to have greater lead in level or school-wide programmes, impact will be at a larger scale. Teaching pedagogies are expected to be of greater variety, classroom management should be more enhanced. To hit GEO 5, it is gonna be very competitive, as there are many SHs and even HODs at GEO 4 and 5. |

Hmmm Is this legit? I am confuse though cos my colleague and i entered the school same month, same year. Both of us are female. But she is promoted in April while me in October. I've seen post before regarding April promotion getting the increment in october. |

HR regulates the numbers also |

I am actually now in HQ, start of Jan. And I think I’m grateful to my ex school leaders and RO who have helped me and gave me good grades and I managed to promote this year. Otherwise I think it’s really hard to be promoted here in HQ with so many strong calibre of officers. Thanks for your help and advice and at least I guess I’ should be glad that I am promoted this year. |
Hi all, congrats on so many of you getting promotions! Keep working hard and your efforts will pay off. I would like to seek some advice from u all experienced teachers.
I am an untrained teacher and I feel v overwhelmed with what I have on my plate now. I know that life as a teacher wont be easy, but experiencing it is a whole new thing. I am fine with the lesson prep, lesson delivery, dept work etc but whats tough is managing the other 100 things that are going on at the same time (students feeling sick/complaining of another student, taking note of whos absent and managing their work, corrections gg back and forth). And having that 1-2 students who are disruptive to the class and when you try to manage them, time is almost up and your period is gone and then you are behind SOW. I spoke with the FT, but I still feel v helpless about this student and its not fair to the rest. I barely havr time to eat or use the toilet. I joined this industry wanting to make a difference. But with everything packed so tight and pressures for deadline, is there any real difference that we are making? I love interacting with the kids 1 on 1. But as a class, they are just so different. Can I ask are all these struggles that I am facing real or am I unsuitable for this career :-( My load is quite like a full time teacher. How do you all experienced teacher know what you want? Take one step a time and fight one battle at a time? What motivates you to fight on? I see my colleagues all leaving at 6pm, bringing home work when they have kids and commitments too, how do you all heroes do it? - struggling soul who would appreciate any kind words/advice |
First of all, congrats! It's rare to be promoted to GEO4 from 3 in 2 years. This already shows your CEP has been raised at some point.
FLP is centrally managed. If your CEP is high and your performance has been good and your age hasnt hit a ceiling (which seems to be the case for you) , HR will certainly look for you if you continue this performance. No need to look for them A good piece of evidence is that you are already at HQ. I assume this is a facilitated HQ posting (invited to apply for certain HQ postings). Quote:

No I applied through open postings. Although during some of my interviews, the interviewers were asking why am I not on facilitated posting. And back then I didn’t know as well.
I felt to challenge myself and hence decided to leave school and try for HQ posting. And I’m glad I did ok and now in a division in HQ, although I do miss school and teaching. Still adjusting to desk bound job and the demand here in HQ seems higher too. Hence I’m mentally prepared that my performance grade will be a C next year since I’ve just got promoted. But I’ll still do my best and give my best shot. Could you advice what do you mean by age ceiling? How does HR identify / look for me? Just curious? As there’s so many educators, surely I am hoping I’m not missed out by the system. :/ Quote:

There are many educators out there who do their best but are not ‘rewarded’ like you in return, and hence the many threads asking why they are not promoted. |

As one previous poster said, HQ posting is a once in a lifetime experience that not many people get to experience. I recall that someone once asked senior mgt at a townhall about why promotions seem to be slower/harder at HQ. The reply was also similar. Yes, you are "competing" with other high performing officers and there might be a trade-off between your short-term progression and work experience, but they encouraged all to focus on the long term personal growth. Whether one would agree, that's a different matter altogether.

How much would an average secondary school teacher with approx 5 years experience earn annually? Anyone can enlighten? Thanks

These days, it's alot harder to enter teaching. |
Recently got to know that I have been promoted to GE03. What is the usual increment like? Is there a difference between degree and non-degree holders and for males and females? My current pay is around $3000.

it's not so much about performance grade. It's about CEP. In a hypothetical situation where you are recognised with a nice PB, but your panel does NOT raise your CEP and/or you do not have "special status" as a higher tier scholar etc., then your promotion rate will not be any faster than average. |
Lost soul
Hi all, been greeaat to see many promotions. Congrats all. I am a UT and I have been feeling really overwhelmed at the amount of things to do in terms of non-lesson related. As well and managing all the complaints coming in about xxx and xxx. Kids being kids will have their own stories and idk I feel so helpless? And then there is like 100 other things gg on which we must keep track and know. I joined wanting to make a difference and now I am wondering if I can even make any difference. So much of my lesson time goes towards classroom management.
I want to ask you all experienced teachers. Does this get better with time? What are some tell tale signs that you can grit through this or signs that it maybe it better to just leave if I am already struggling to keep afloat as a UT. What makes you all stay in this profession? What would be your 2 cents towards this lost soul here? |

Hi everyone, I cleared practicum in 2016, promoted to GEO3 in Oct 2017. Female, no NS, received the teaching award in uni but didn't graduate with honours. Been getting a B every year since 2019 (it's been 3 years now), before then it was both C+. Is it a pipe dream for me to be promoted?

Once again, it is NOT about performance grades alone. A school can give you a ton of good performance grades but if your CEP is still P8 (GEO5), you won't be promoted quickly at all. |

prob is you cant apply for positions if your cep is low ie p8. based on computer system. so you have to move to be normal teacher and start frm scratch and pray new sch raises your cep. Catch 22
