A GEO 5 teacher can command 6k+ to 7k monthly salary. Many teachers are contented with this. If they save enough, can go 2x a year holiday and afford a car, along with their partners' incomes. And probably save enough money to sponsor their kids' university education.

Not about the progression, but in general, teachers in SG are paid more than other jobs, because Govt heavily invests in education. If you look at the budget, education is always among top 3, and the main drain on budget is actually manpower costs.

1) What does contract adjunct teacher's job entail? usually have cca? usually lighter workload than full time permanent teacher right?

2) Is the pay the same as full time teacher?

3) everything the same just that no promotion, no performance bonus and no connect plan?

any contract adjunct teachers here can answer? thanks

To your first question, not automatically. CEP review is independent of the promotion process. You can be promoted all the way to your existing CEP without ever having it reviewed again. At the other extreme, your CEP could be reviewed multiple times in the years in between two promotions.

To your first question, yes there is a difference. Becoming a KP is known as "appointment" (rather than promotion). You are appointed to the role, but it does not come with a salary increase. If you are appointed a KP while you are on the GEO grades, you will receive an annual Responsibility Allowance on top of your normal GEO salary. It's not that much. To draw true management salaries, you will need to wait until you are promoted to SEO1 and above, which does not happen immediately after appointment and can actually take.. quite some years.

I’m a KP, with A and B grades. Took me 7 years to reach GEO 5.

My colleague also took 7 years. And within the 7 years, 4 years were part time. Is this usual?

I am a female dip at geo2.

2017 GEO1 C Finished NIE
2018 GEO1 C
2019 GEO1 C
2020 GEO2 C
2021 GEO2 C+

May I know how long to hit GEO3?

Tinkermaster 31-03-2022 07:42 PM

Usually will take a couple of C+/B/A which can be up to 3 rounds minimum. If you consistently just achieve C, the will take longer. But also depends on your CEP. So if you have a better CEP and is ranked higher in the CEP list, then sometimes the number of C+/B required may not be that many.Good luck

7 years to reach GEO 5 is quite normal.

Tinkermaster 31-03-2022 07:48 PM

Contract Adjunct does not have connect plan and very minor bonuses, but other than that the pay is quite good. Your duties are dependent on what is agreed upon between the school and you and can range from classes, being FT, after school programms, CCA etc. Most contract adjunct operating on full time capacity is almost the same with regular teacher pay.

On average it seems slower now. People usually jump to GEO4 or 5 so quickly compared to 5 years ago. Taking your example of 7 years for a male:

Year 1: fresh grad BT geo2
Year 2: promotion to geo3 (time in grade 1y)
Year 4: promotion to geo4 (time in grade 2y)
Year 7: promotion to geo5 (time in grade 3y)

Perhaps its possible if you are an appointment holder. But the regular HOT will probably not experience such a quick promotion trajectory.

Wow. 7 years from GEO 2 to GEO 5.
There are many teachers in my sch who are stuck in GEO 4 for that number of years.
