Thoughts for consideration

Better means there is a comparison So... Compare with what? For me, I am the one with the average qualification. My motive for joining DXO is, 1.I observe friends in ministry, everyone is properly recognised as long they put in the effort to score points. I may enter slightly late but I am sick of unfair bosses that bias gender n bias colour especially in stat board and pte. Ministry tend to be heavily audited and employ only the people with highest integrity ( I hope so la...) 2.Also I know for a fact that DXO work life is balanced. I will have time to pursue other investment n interests. I am particular about per hour salary. If I want to score points for promotion I will put in the effort accordingly. 3. Most DXO I know are not go-getter, imagine FCH entitled to 5k (5 yr ago) ... Even refuse to work hard in 3 years also can promote n increment hit 7k... If I push hard I can stabilise at 6 - 7 k as SM or AD in less than 5 years and just cruise. People like me with poor grades working for gov must survive on multiple sources of income. So, what are your needs buddy. |
Advise please
Would appreciate if someone can advise this,
Took PT test 5 weeks ago and received a rejection email stating that I am not further shortlisted. Was mentioned that the result will be retained in the system for one year and will be welcome to re-apply after this period and to consider the available positions. My current doubt would be 1. Can I still re-apply for other position during this period of time? 2. Does this mean that my PT result was not up to their expectation? My profile: a soon to be graduate from local Uni. The position I applied for asked for a tertiary qualification. Thank you in advance! |

what i can guess is that is that your PT results as compared to other applicants wasnt as good for that 'batch'. since they told you they retained your results, im sure it is considered good enough. just keep trying until they tell you not to. |
Quote:
yes, possibly PT is not up to expectation. since the it was a role-based issue, then they would have encouraged you to apply for something else or shortlist you for something else. all the best!! |

Yes it means your PT for this batch... is below normal standard of the bell curve. The 1 year thing, I didn't abide. I read here that the PT is similar to gmat.. So I went to reccee the books, and found similar style of test... So I bought and practised. When they advertised my ideal role again, I applied and did better for PT this time.. Today 8 months after I submitted application, I'm starting work. PT is crucial for fresh grads. One kind fella posted about how his boss leans on PT to hire several pages back... Sounds legit. About 10 pages back I think. |

i know uniform ppl quite high, but what about DXO? |
Just want to hear from the rest,
I am 26, currently working in a private landscape industry. I have 3 years of working experience as a supervisor. Do you think its possible and feasible to change to a DXO job? I wanted to be a DXO after i ORD-ed but decide to do something which I have interest first. But my priority changed now as I would like to earn a higher salary for investments to generate more income for my future. My current salary is $2200. From $1300 when I first started as a Gardener Intern when I was 23. Most likely I will be trying for an executive position since Managers level require a tertiary education, I'm quite sure they are only looking at degree. Is it possible to work my way up from there? Or eventually I will still need a degree to get promotions? I am also interested in applying for the Training/HR/OD departments as I got keen interest in them. |

Hello and welcome!
To be honest, like what the above post mention (and see the rest of the civil service timeline and salary), the service focuses a bit on qualification. Yes, going for an executive possible and then getting to a part-time degree with help from MINDEF. I advise you to apply something closer to your qualifications. Otherwise, it may be hard to justify and even promote in the longer run since most of the regulars officers and DXO would have a degree qualification. I think most managers post in Training and OD are 'staff' position - tabling papers and etc, so there are a lot of writing involved, and hence they would definitely prefer someone with degree qualification. just try for it, you never try you never know! The other question is, changing my career path now to another industry (from landscape to DXO/office job), will it affect much? I read past postings that we should stay in an industry and gain more specialised skills/knowledge through our individual's career progression. |

The whole public service is quite obsessed over academic. IMHO if u want both money n interest, up your financial literacy and invest on the side. Grow 1k into 1.5k, 1.5 into 2.5... One day it becomes 100k.. You may even start your own online business and maybe.. Be an online florist? By now you should be an expert green finger right. Dabble into terrariums, creative bouquets.. U know better than me. |
Definitely - can help interns of salary and progression. Yes, i think SAF officers need a degree to go to Captain (or otherwise it will take realllllllly long), since CPT has a 'staff' rotation.
I think it's okay to change industry. Honestly if you see what people study at uni, many do not actually work in something that is what they study. In one interview I went for, the Director told me they need the skills in critical thinking and reasoning which the uni should have trained me in... I think if you can do what like you like well, then it is a plus point. I mean you never know what you dislike until you try it right? Haha! Quote:

As I do not plan to retire here, my goal was actually to earn money first, get a capital to start a small business in Philippines, buy houses there to earn passive income. (sorry if this is getting out of topic!) |

However, not all red zone office/camps have this system in place yet. Well, you still can go to 3rd party shop to get your camera removed or sand blast by yourselves and get the security officer in your unit/department to approve bring that phone in. |
anybody who took PT on 1st week of april and shortlisted for interview that will take place this week?

but if you are asking for PT scores, i don't think anyone ever received their scores? |

still waiting, applied for some facility role. haha |
Hello, do you guys email the HR to ask them about your application (after taking Psychometric test) or wait patiently for them to email you back?
|
I think waiting for a couple of weeks before making any inquiries with HR would be reasonable. Seems like the minimum waiting time is at least 2 weeks from the PT..

Mindef min 3 months max 6 months (data from here) |
It depends on the hiring manager. PT scores takes about less than a week to process, then it is up to hiring managers. Some of them don’t want to come down to meet only 1-2 candidates so they may wait awhile to do so. Then it depends on their schedule and all the other things.

giving back to this community.
my timeline was (roughly): job application + 0 PT + 2 weeks Interview invitation + 6 days Interview 1 + 1 week Site Preview + 4 days Offer + 1 day some of them posted here are right, it depends on the schedule of the hiring manager and how urgent that post needs to be filled. |

sorry everyone, i missed out a line on my timeline, no wonder it was like it seems really quick.
the timeline should be job application + 0 PT invitation + 2 weeks PT + 2 weeks Interview invitation + 6 days Interview 1 + 1 week Site Preview + 4 days Offer + 1 day missed out the invitation after 2 weeks of application, and PT was 2 weeks after i received the invitation to register - otherwise mine seems too fast. sorry for the confusion. i applied for an IT role, rejected because military lifestyle is not for me. |

Logistics Manager
Hi everyone,
Would like to ask anyone who've been to the logistics manager interview/know anything about this position, does one have to spend the day working in the warehouse or? Will there be any "executives" helping the logistics manager. Appreciate all responses! |
