Sure. Since you're paid more than your seniors. You should be doing all the work.
Have fun.

Personally, I think 4.7k is a good salary to start off with. However, you got to bear in mind that there are other software engineer post that’s being paid 7k for a start, so don’t be blinded by the starting pay.

For de bonus and increment. First year: no bonus cos there’s only performance bonus which is for the work done the year before. Increment will only happen every July, if you join Jan 2023, your increment will be split into two portions, first in Jan 2024 and your final incremented pay will be in July 2024.

There are also a lot of salty people as fresh grad pay is higher than theirs.

Anyone went through the digital academy for engineer role can share experience and salary?

Changing of job titles are usually reserved for the management.

Suck thumb la, brother. Fastest way is jump ship and get better salary loh. A lot employer especially ins SG see paper more important. No paper, no talk. You work how hard also cannot get hire or promote one. That's why so many "elites" holding top position.

Loyal to one company also no point, can work for 20-30 years, then once the employee die, will get replaced asap. Might as well jump ship where the company pay more.

stop giving wrong info, the FY 2022 does not end in dec 22. It ends in mar or april. If you joined in Oct 22 and you have passed your probation, you will likely receive a pro-rated bonus of maybe 5 or 6 months in april 22.

Impossible. This company treasures employees by their length of service, hardly by merit unless the person is really very outstanding. Some more, most of the "bosses who don't do anything" are usually long service award winners of 15 years and above.

One good example, there was an engineer who is very outstanding in his work. But management only promoted him after 6 years. The PM he was under, can't do anything right, got promoted twice in 5 years.

Yeah, alot of the perm staff left, comparing to the contract staffs there wasn't anything worth mentioning

Previously perm staff had a lot more benefits compared to contract staff. Then the management started slashing special bonuses, stocks and things like leave.

The only difference now is the name of the employment itself, perm vs contract, and probably the staff pass.

Is the office there still felt too cold? Previously I still recall employees wore winter jackets in the office especially during the rainy season. Their office aircons are really very powerful. :)

How is the culture there like in 2023? Please share for those still working or worked there.

Unregistered 03-03-2023 11:05 PM

If you are fresh grad:
Do your best to avoid any business unit that does MINDEF Projects. Majority of them don't sell software, they sell retirement portfolios. A large number of ex-civil servants are parachuted in at senior management positions. Most of their job involves slapping a sales KPI onto the lower echelons to deliver and convincing other people that leadership is very important. After all, they have no other relevant experience in this industry. You are more likely to find yourself learning from mistakes on the job rather than learning from experienced people. The longer you stay, the more obsolete your skills compared to the outside industry.

Only apply this place if you derive satisfaction in helping incompetent people retire.

Unregistered 04-03-2023 12:00 AM

Does that apply to all SWE roles as well? :/

Unregistered 04-03-2023 12:05 AM

Has anyone completed Digital Academy Program under ST recently for software engineer role??

Wondering how the whole course is like and if the workload is manageable (OT a lot?)

Also curious about the culture in ST at the moment.

If you prove to be competent, they will lump more work to you and take the credit. Any requests for raises or promotion is always met with "do first, then we X later" attitude.

More often than not, you will always have teammates that make you wonder how they get in. Spoiler alert, the same goes for the management level as well. Like someone said previously, parachute down one

Here the background check on education is quite dubious. Got plenty of ppl saying they are from NUS but can perform worse than diploma holders.

Is this on top of the normal annual increment? So if the yearly increment is 4%, the promotion adds slightly more than 4% on top of it?
