NCS (SingTel subsidiary)

hi all,

I'm currently work as Unix Technical Consultant in US MNC located at Malaysia and earning RM5k per month.

in past few weeks ago, i saw a job in sg. the pay range is SGD3.5k-5k
i applied the job with expected salary SGD5k. They came back to me says their client is NCS. also, they told me this is a direct contract job with NCS and asked me what is my minimum expected salary.

i wonder how much they can pay for UNIX position ?
anyone know about this?

Unix skills are rare nowadays. Ask for at least 5k sgd, which is what you stated as expected salary.

Depending on your experience with UNIX and what is the scope in NCS. Does your new job involves in basic administrating of UNIX (AIX/Solaris/HP-UX)? Or need extensive scripting knowledge and SAN storage experience?

It's quite difficult for foreigners to seek employment in Singapore recently. Most of the job applications are opened mainly to Singaporeans and PRs.

Unregistered 19-01-2011 08:34 PM

sorry to tell u, NCS is a low-budget company. Everyone thinks they are underpaid there.

2ndly, the reason why sg companies will hire u or foreigners is because you are cheap to hire.

3rdly, the job ad u saw is probably posted by some ad agency, using high celerys to attract job seekers like u. The actual renumeration is given by NCS hr side, who will try their best to bargin to as low as possible on your celery.

if u r really interested in cuming to sg, set a realistic pay for yourself and the hr.

Never listen to the naysayers. Singapore is a goldmine for foreigners. The government has made clear that distinction between citizens and foreigners will be wider. That means foreigners are really making a big bundle here. The citizens are daft and can't reproduce themselves enough. Foreigners are badly needed to help boost the economy. And GDP growth is the number 1 obsession of the political leaders here.

Unregistered 21-01-2011 10:33 AM

Gold mine indeed!

and a harem too...in fact foreigners will be doing the government a favor by inseminating the local women and boost the population, since the local men seem to be incapable of doing so.

how was the working environment & turnover rate

i have been contacted by EPS as well for some other positions which is also servicing NCS...i was told that the maximum budget was around SGD5k with no contractual bonus..Worst part is that the agency would want me to travel to Singapore for F-2-F interview if being shortlisted but I have to cover my own expenses...I was wondering, shall i give it a try..my current earning in Malaysia was RM 6.5k

You should give it a try. If you wanna save on costs, take an overnight coach here and take a coach back immediately after the interview.

Unregistered 28-01-2011 07:09 PM

Please check with them if you are based at NCS hub at Ang Mo Kio or outsourced somewhere. Outsourced by NCS can be quite terrible.

funny how they can give a max budget but not a minimum budget.

Unregistered 30-01-2011 10:42 AM

as oper told by the job agency, this is a position which will be servicing for the project & support for government institutes...really curious about the working environment and working pressure

Unregistered 01-02-2011 12:57 AM

Perhaps around 4k for your position. For a permanent position, it's not too bad. You will get 13th month bonus + average 2 month variable bonus.

What everyone is saying is true. NCS is a budget company. Most people only spend a few years there then jump ship for a better salary.

Unregistered 01-02-2011 09:37 AM

anyone here can advise which IT company in SG pays the best?

Unregistered 01-02-2011 10:16 PM

choose microsoft, apple, ibm....

pay good doesn't mean prospects and work life is good....

hmnnn..the job agency told me different thing
there is no contractual/13th month salary...but there will be performance/variable bonus which ranges from 0-3 month...the position i've applied is a senior position...if the job offer is sgd4k only, then most likely i will pass out this position as it does not worth the efforts spent for relocation

Unregistered 02-02-2011 10:08 PM

sgd 4k, 14k, 40k forever not enuff for the average person living in singapore.

pls giv up this position to assist high unemployment rate of fresh graduates looking for permanent positions with a good headstart in their careers.

Unregistered 08-02-2011 02:18 PM

No point moving to SG if this country couldn't provide me the shelter I need....Neither I would want to spoil the market :-D

What a pig who can only think of these. Shallow...

From NCS

I was from NCS in managerial position.

If what you have applied for is a senior position as a specialist, not a programmer, and not a PM, then S$4K+ is the reasonable expectation. If you do well as contract, you'll have a chance to be converted to permanent staff after 1 year.

But as previous poster has mentioned, you have to ask whether you will be working from client's place or from NCSHub, because working at client's place means less benefits and it will also be difficult for you to nail down your lodging location. You'll also have to content with reporting to the client's PM in addition to your own (a nightmare).

Unregistered 11-07-2011 04:44 PM

my frend got offer liao in NCS as specialist operation, but wht is job scope on this post???
i also want to apply at NCS soon. any suggest...

Unregistered 26-08-2011 02:19 PM

foreigners are cheapskates that's why SG need cheap people.

Unregistered 28-05-2012 08:45 AM

4k for a senior...?

How many years xp you have? Companies here are totally confused about the concept o senior. Concepts vary. Let's get to maths. How many years of xp?

And by the way. Singapore IT companies are generally "budget", with some hard to et exceptions. Here you are competing against very low budget IT pros that's just wanna get some pennies better than what they have. I would not change for 4k if I were u unless perspectives don't look good in MY... Remember accommodation here is not cheap

In SG (it's probably true in other places too), MNC vendors tend to pay higher than the local companies. Among them, principal vendors, global telcos and banks are probably the best paymasters. IT professionals, who want the best rewards, should consider these companies.

Also, SG being a hub city in APAC, you will find more principal vendors and global companies setting up shop here and that translates to more opportunities to the job seekers here.

From my perspective, I tend to believe that SG offers more opportunities than MY. Just look at how much FDI is MY attracting each year VS SG's. If you are young and adventurous, I think it's worthwhile to take the plunge to relocate and explore your career here. You may not get the best offer at first but once you start building your own network here, the reward will come.

Unregistered 01-07-2012 07:31 PM

any idea the job scope of a system analyst working inside NCS?

What are examples of "principal vendors", and how well do they pay (say, for a Project Manager or Solution Architect)? thanks

That sounds like it is just one promotion or grade higher than a fresh grad hire? I assume a fresh uni accounting grad will come in at entry level at around 2.5k-3k?

Yea, assistant manager is a very junior position, ~5yrs exp.

Fresh grad come in at ~2.5k+ after 2 years become senior exec ~3.2k+ and then get promoted to AM in another 2-3 years, so 3.5 - 4k sounds about right.

Agree. I am a junior solution architect and making 190K per year

Unregistered 03-07-2012 05:56 PM

There are various kind of tech roles in a more established vendor. Typically, roles that are generating revenue get paid more. Most will have commissions too.

In a small vendor who just set up shop here, they typically starts with a sales team.
At this stage, a common role for a techie will be the pre-sales. This role typically gets paid in the range of 80-250K.
