If you are working in stat board, it is just like working in SAF.
I remember some of the top civil servant have said: When it come to time of storm, the foreigner talent "fled" while they themselves stay to fight the war. I'm have nothing against FT or anyone but if i look at the other way, these FT are make the scapegoat during "storm" (forced to leave and put all blame onto them) while these so call top civil servant/ top leaders seized the opportunity to score points. (Of course they themselves are not the one doing the actual job but arrow those below them to pian for them)..... That's life in civil service and our so call LEADERS doing public service. :( |
someone has to be the sacrificing carpet right ? that's life of civil service that i see.
please tell me to look on the bright side. |

2years contract
Does anyone here work on a 2yr contract basis? Any stories on whether contract was not renewed or something like that coz i have been offered 3.5k starting with 2yr contract.Mulling over it now..Tks for generous input........
|
i am also pondering over this question, will the contract position be turned to perm ?
i saw an interesting job that i want to apply, but its a 2 year contract. |
Science is a crappy industry! I'm 31yrs with an MSc. Worked 2yrs with part-time BSc, 6yrs with my MSc and I'm only earning $3.8 now. And to think I'm considered an above average performer. This is what I call pathetic!
And when I switched job last year, HR can tell me that I'm already being paid better than my peers at my age. Quote:

profile
27 this year, female, graduated in mid-06 with 2nd upper hons (NUS), non-scholar (to state the obvious). started in a stat board with $2.8k, currently drawing $3.9k in civil service.

July 2006 >>> $2800 July 2007 >>> ??? July 2008 >>> ??? July 2009 >>> ??? July 2010 >>> $3900 With 4 years of experience, And I assume you had 1 promotion + 4 years of annual increment. (3900-2800)/(4+1) = $220 I assume your annual increment for every year is about $220, and when you promoted, u get another $220 increment. Can you fill in the ??? and which year are you promoted? |
Scientist.
I agree. Work so hard, publish so many papers also no use. Quote:

1. Are you male or female? 2. When or which year/month do you graduate from university/join the ministry? 3. I suppose you got pass or pass with merit degree. |
I'm male, 32 this year, BEng (2nd lower).
Worked as a teacher till 29, earning 4.2k when I left. The 3 years I spent in the teaching service was more siong than NS... my life was totally consumed by work. Teaching itself was alright though :P When my bond was over, I switched to the private sector, working as a designer. This is my dream job, as I'm passionate about art and design. I was very happy back then, even though I took a 15% paycut. Now, 2.5 years down the road, I'm making 4k a month, still loving the work. However, I'm getting increasingly disgrunted about my relatively low pay, seeing that the majority of my friends are easily making 1-2k more than me. I'm also somewhat affected by the fact that my work is "non-graduate" in nature... it's silly, I know. Now seriously considering going back to the teaching service for maybe 500-1000 more per month, is it worth it? |
Quite simply, no. Unless you want your life to be consumed by work again.

I have a question...
do officers on the MX scheme get any year end bonus, or any bonus at all, if they are on probation (ie. join < 1 year) |
Quote:
eg, if u join the ministry 1st july, then in Dec you got 50% of what the actual bonus is |

For MOE, after the interview does it mean the longer you wait the higher chances you will get the job?
Do they normally inform those unsuccessful first? |
:)
Dear All,
I'm pursuing my Masters in Economics currently and will be graduating by end of this year. I have 4 years of work experience, 2 years in banking ops and 2 years as an educator. My pay is around 3.2K...got a pay cut when I switched from private to public sector. I am intending to join places like the MAS, MTI etc. Do you think the chances are slim and what should I state as my expected pay? Thank you! :) |

Where is your masters from? Hello, From the NUS. :) |
How do you fare?
Funny how pple keep asking how they are doing, just plug in your figure at the salary benchmark calculator lah. No need to brag on one hand or wonder if what you are getting is dismal on the other...

Not that i want to argue with you. But such benchmarks only provides quantitative feedbacks. Sometimes people prefer a little more qualitative input you see. No harm asking around and being well-informed about the job market.
Of course, run your own race and take every input with a pinch of salt. After all, salary is not the only reward you get out of a job. Quote:

hi, does anyone know what's the jobscope and salary range like for language analysts in MHA? i've also been reading a few pages of this thread and noticed that there seem to be different salary tracks for different ministries (or is it positions?). can someone explain more?

anyone knows whats the highest paying stat board/ministry?
(Excluding uniformed groups like SAF,SPF,ICA etc.) Is DSTA the highest? |
Agree with you. From the previous inputs, I believe I can get more out from this forum which is why I asked. Not flaunting about anything.

Care to share your scope? Are you on management executive scheme? $4.6k at 29 year old for a degree with no hons in the public service is quite good. |
Salary reasonable?
Hi,
can i check with you guys? I have a degree from the UK and graduated with a second class lower. With that, I worked in the Stat Board for about 2 years with a starting of $2.7K and ending at $3.3K before I left for further studies. Now graduated with a Masters, I am returning back to the Civil Service, EDB to be specific. I am offered a starting salary of $3.6k now and I am not sure if this is reasonable or not. It is relatively lower than I expected and it is just $300 more for the 2 years I spent attaining the Masters. To what I understand, $3.6k is usually a fresh masters pay but I have job experience which was considered. Can anyone tell me if this is reasonable or I should try asking for alittle more? Thanks! |

Fresh NTU/NUS grad with 2nd upper joining DSTA getting about $3580 as starting pay. 1st class getting about $3880. And I mean FRESH GRAD. For you, armed with master degree + few years of working experience u getting $3600....well is underpaid for sure. |
