Yes but it doesn’t answer how some people we know who have 4pqe does not earn 12k

No he didn't. Anyway, I can do better than Big 4 it doesn't matter. My mid sized firm is better anyway

So big 4 hiring and international/FLAs/mid sized all firing/cutting pays?

Are all the businesses centralised in the big 4s that’s why they are not as badly affected?

Amazing. This is called payback time.
The boys at the international firms have been earning an obscenely huge amount of money.
It’s time for the great equalizer!!!

I mean it's calling a spade a spade. They couldn't really justify 'humane' working hours and high pay at the same time when they're basically not doing much except being a *****

Saw that certain department from the famed MBFC Tower 1 firm hiring ? Anyone can confirm?

It was answered. I'll cobble together the info from from all the posts before:

1PQE at big 4 gets 6.5 +.
Annual increase is higher than 1k.
There is a promotion jump from PQE3 to PQE4 (assuming you get promoted to SA, which is usually automatic.
You do the math.

Of course, this is pre-CPF.

Unregistered 10-06-2020 11:04 AM

Also, the big 4 is not even in pay. Maybe his big 4 pays that much, and the rest don't. That's all. But I can assure you it will be comparable throughout any of the big 4.

If you're talking about Baker IP, I can confirm. I've had a few calls saying that they are looking for vacancies. However, as long as the head is there...... I'd rather take less money than shorten my lifespan and wreck my health.

Actually, looks like the difference may come down to how pqe is counted. I haven't heard of any big 4 paying more than 12k until the calendar year that the lawyer reaches 6pqe, which for 2020 would be the batch called to the bar in 2014. One of the other big 4 pays less, and another pays more.

Maybe the 12k refers to the 2015-called batch of that highest paying one, with a bit of rounding up?

Or it would be cool to know if there actually isn't any rounding up and the pay is actually 12k for that firm (i.e. increase from previous years' benchmarks). If so, for which batch? Called 2015 or 2016?

The breakdown year by year that I'm thinking of is covered in some of the posts from eons ago in this forum thread. For two of the big 4, these numbers haven't changed.

Same lmao ending at 10pm is a pretty average day for me.

The two points at which I would say it is considered really bad is: (1) You're not getting sufficient sleep on a regular basis or (2) you have to work more than 10 hours on the weekend.

Is this about the MBFC Tower 1 firm or firms in general?

Unregistered 10-06-2020 04:22 PM

For those of you looking for jobs, it is likely that partners are more prudent in hiring even if the firm isn’t on a hiring freeze. It is unlikely that you will be employed through a zoom interview. Let’s hope for phase 3 to come quickly so people can get back into office and partners will be more willing to conduct interviews in person.

But I thought the law firms usually boast about how they are willing to embrace technology?

I posted about the Baker vacancy earlier.

If you wanna take on the verbal insults you will get on a daily basis, toxic environment where colleagues don't really help you and almost criminal work hours. Then yea, the 7k salary is pretty worth it

There's been a rash of associate turnovers recently because of the working environment.

There are a select few at certain departments of magic circle and white shoe firms in singapore office who get North of 14k at 2y pie (sg scale) and end work before covid times at around 7-9pm.

Depends also lah. If you are 0 to 85th percentile of law batch, to get an opportunity there is alr v good. That's the only way to get BM. If you between 85th and 100% percentile, then of course should aim for the real International firms (ie no JV except for CC)

Unregistered 10-06-2020 05:22 PM

hmmm lol okay if 10 pm is pretty decent then im just gonna suck it up. thanks for the litmus test as to what counts as really bad hours!

I've interned there before under the particular head and I've asked the opinion of a couple of friends who worked there before if I should take up the position. It was a unanimous no from all I surveyed.

That's the average lifespan for every firm because everyone's climbing the salary ladder, no?

Not necessarily, usual dropout years are at Year 2 (for the law burnouts or move to in-house) or Year 4 or 5 (Essentially before junior partner equivalent).

Means if a firm can average 3 years quite good already?

How's RHTLaw Asia doing these days?

Heard they recently moved to a top-tier brand new working place..
