Dear Accenture manager, pls read up tks.

I did not say all private uni grads are outstanding, just like how not every local uni grad is stellar.

Pls learn to be a lil more secure with yourself. Tks.

The reason why ACN and some other firms have a sizeable private uni grads is because of they hire mainly on the basis on psychometric testing and assessment day performance.

Used to work for cut-e before they got absorbed by Aon, most hiring practices by MNCs now assess candidates strictly by the performance metrics laid out by HR, nothing else.
(The only exception to this if the candidate is from a target school i.e: Oxbridge, Wharton etc.)

Although from my experience, candidates who often perform well in these assessments often hail from local unis. However, if a candidate meets the threshold percentile on his tests, we will still extend the employment offer whether or not he’s from a local uni.

Compelled to add to this:

Private uni grads in accenture usually gathered in different departments (albeit with local uni grads there as well).. such as technology, operations, security.

Where you have strategy consulting (not like ACN strat is one of the top-tiers but definitely pays significantly more), u cant find even 1 private uni grad there (in Singapore office).

Just different business models.

There are a handful of private u fresh grads in strat consulting. Go on LinkedIn.

e.g: //sg.linkedin.com/in/charlottechanyj

The only consulting firms with no private u fresh grads are MBB. Then again in those firms, first year associates from NUS/SMU/NTU are also minuscule cuz majority in the Singa office are from target b-schools like Wharton.

^ adding on. ACN isn’t top tier lol.

Unregistered 25-05-2020 07:18 PM

Honestly, the way I see it, top tier firms don’t hire private uni grads because prestige matters a lot to them & their clients (think BB FO & MBB)

There are probably a handful of private uni grads which can make the cut but they simply don’t have the branding.

I personally know a UOL grad that went for a Masters simply to rebrand so he can break into certain industries/roles (he’s in a tier 2 strategy house now)

Nonetheless, things might change in the next decade or so since more firms are slowly trying to remove ‘inherent biases’
