Jobless for 6 mths until a company poached me and got hired, thinking I was 'saved'. Company turned out to be a hellhole that I've seen newcomers walk out of the office 2 hours after they joined. Left after 3 months and have been jobless since. I took up some freelance and part-time in between but the money is good enough for my meals for a few months.

i try not to update my situation to my close friends cos everytime they ask about it, they would say 'try another industry, don't always apply to the same kind of job'. When you tell them you have tried other industries, they tell you 'you never apply enough'. I'd rather not say anything cos they have a job, they don't know what it's like to be jobless.

Who is also in the same boat as me?

Yeah thats good . dont tell your friends. Many of them "friends" give useless advice and want to compare or secretly see you suffer.

In my addition to my previous post, to say your friends do not know what it is like to be jobless is not accurate. People don't born to have a job waiting for them when they grow up. Sure they did experience a jobless gap before they land themselves in their current job.

To say they don't know how it is like to be jobless for soooo long like you and that is true.

So the qn is why are you jobless for soooooooooooo long ?

usually its a combination of self affliction and external situation. not one or the other exclusively.

being jobless in Singapore is quite common, Singaporeans are naturally weak in a lot of things. on top of that we have this sinkie pwn sinkie culture, no surprise we're always behind everyone in everything.

I feel you bro. I was jobless after graduating from uni in 2009, it took me a year to land a job after hundreds of resumes sent, 10-20 failed interviews. The worst interview that I had was when a guy asked me how many line of C codes that I wrote in my final year project. I was a little boy back then and said maybe hundred lines or something. Then he looked at my transcript and said ABAB somethings and said I lacked of perspective (to a little boy who was jobless for months). Not sure what was the reason, I saw a smile on his face, and he failed me later. But thanks to him, I know how fast I can type in programming language after that and been improving it. :D The "lack of perspective" part encouraged me tried more and failed more. I took my courage to hang out with friends during weekend and said I need help, any help would be appreciated. They gradually stop saying sh*t and started to help with information and encouragement. The first job that I had was from referral, not the best, but better than nothing. There is always a way out in life, I do hope the best for you.

This is really inspiring. People out there who is still whining and crying no jobs want them should learn from you.

All those jobless ppl out here reading your post should feel ashamed. There really is no excuse. The only excuse is the jobless person himself/herself.

Gotten a contract job after uni grad, but i did not liked the office desk bound job. Quit and now doing logistic contract job at a lower pay. I rather be moving around than be sitting for long hours.

As long as you are happy it doesn't matter desk bound or not.

It isn't common, in fact it is very rare. According to the stats it's only a few percent (like 2 or 5% that kind) that be jobless.

The problem is Singaporeans mostly think they are entitled just because they are born and grow up here. So they think they should deserve higher pay even though they just graduated and have 0 work experience. Ask them start lower pay they will start to think it is the end of the world.

I observe those pinoys who work in recept area in my office building. Although it is just a recept job, they work with pride and I can see their confidence and professionalism. Ask a Singaporean to work there, I confirm they will start throwing black face. You see why the employers rather hire foreigners ? Singaporeans ask for it one.

Sorry graduate uni to work as receptionist?? Are u even okay?

Receptionist is zero growth and prospects, if got brains no one will take them.

I disagree wor, you learn about customer service when you work as a recep. Can also train you to be more confident when you talk to people. Also depends what the fresh grad wants to work as when he develops his career further, e.g hotel management or any career that deals with people/human interaction, this will be a good starting point.
Can work 1 year to earn some experience then advance to a better job.

Many Singaporeans want to fly when they haven't even learn how to walk.

Unregistered 10-06-2022 01:00 AM

Better be a receptionist than unemployed. Unemployed got what experience? At least receptionist got people skills or other skills. Anyways, its true. Many Singaporeans will reject the offer and rather wait for better opportunities while being unemployed (even if need to wait very long).

Not just about being recep. Alot of fresh grad don't want to do entree level job to learn the trade. They think they can waltz in and manage others. Fat chance for vast majority of them. At thr sane time they are also quick to give up and don't want to put in the hours. End up they rather go do grab. As time went by they become unemployable. Too inexperience for mid level job too highly paid for junior jobs

I wonder those jobless people if really jobless ? Are they hungry enough? if really hungry enough there's still security industry to work. Just go take wsq course and get security license. Though long hours but min also can get 3k gross per mth. Most of the time Zuo bo lan there also. Stress freeee. Can choose the location near to your house also.

I have known some of my friends cause of some mistake made in life, their career screwed up and having pay cut 20% and restart their career all over at 30s. Depressing and despair, nevertheless they still strike on. End of day bread on table is more impt.

And recession can be seen starting with the impact of covid 19 still and Russia-Ukraine/Nato/US tension. Inflation will keep going up. Foresee more jobless people soon. Now got whatever job just take liao. Mai hiam this and hiam that of what pay low.

Look at other countries such as HongKong, Taiwan, Shanghai, and more. Their wages are way way lower than us, housing more fking expensive than sg cause doesnt have so called gov grant. Can you imagine the people there are more stress and despo than us? Having mthly pay or maybe 1.5k for diploma holder or 2k for degree holder and cant even afford the sky high apartment unit costing 800k to few m sgd.

Yet sg ppl here kpkb and whine jobless. F&b job so many hiring, at least also got 2.5k
Want high pay job and not stress and office hours. Where to find?? Even if so, do you have the capability and ability for that position?? End of day later got high pay job also kpkb too stresss, no time for family, dog life or whatsoever then end up resigning.
then kpkb jobless again.

Was unemployed for few months after quitting an office job. Then I took a 30% pay cut from working at a white collar job to a blue collar job. Although, now it is physically more tiring, i dont have to "work" on weekends. Plus, its a night shift job. Loving the change of environment. Its much cooler and quieter in the night. No meetings, just short briefings. Not feeling like im trap in a prison while i am desk-bound.

30% pay cut. That's a lot. But end of day health is more impt than money. As long as the money is enough for you and feel happier its enough. No point having high pay job and getting burn out, stress out. Most importantly is know how to manage your wealth. I seen a lot earning decent salary but buy luxury car, condo that are out of their range. And got retrenched then struggling liao.

Indeed. As of now, i got no debt such as uni loans and housing debt. Only pay own phone bills and giving my parents allowance. Usually eat at home unless i feel like going out to eat.
