Unemployed/picky

I am a fresh grad from a local university, arts degree, second lower.
I was offered a 2.7-2.8...
Not sure if I should take up. Like it will be a really humbling experience for me and i dont know if i can take it, especially when my friends would be earning a 3.2k/mth...

Which industry is that in? I know how u feel, felt the same way when I started out. But to be honest with you, in the grand scheme of things, 300-400 at the start is negligible.

After 3 years, I'm earning at least 30% more than my uni peers, many of which start out 30% more than me.

I got offered a job in the field of elderly care (social service sector). Now I am not sure to just accept it or continue waiting for better opportunities (which may be never/long time after).

You have to ask yourself what your motivation is in going into this sector. Most people that I know that entered the social service sector didn't do it for the money. If you are looking for financial independence, this is not the route to take.

Yes I totally agree. I love to volunteer in the elderly centres. But a job wise is totally different. Actually I was thinking whether this first job experience might make it easier for me to job-hop into a stat board next time. Like I'll love to deal with the aging issue in the long run. But I know the first 2 years will be super hard for me.... And how do I justify the job hop next time.... So many things to consider....

I'm guessing you are a female. Not being sexist, just an observation. I have no clue whether it will aid you in going into a stat board in the future. But I do know that the application process to enter a stat board or the govt sector in general, can take ages... I'm assuming you tried applying already?

Yes you're right. Hmm I've sent in many applications. But no response so far. I would say I have relevant internship experience, just maybe cause of my class of degree...

Unfortunately, I work in the banking sector, not versed at all in the civil service sector. U can try posting what you've applied for and whether your background is usually considered for those roles. Take the comments with a pinch of salt though, a lot of trolls around. You have second lower honors and relevant internship, to me that sounds pretty legit.

In the worst case scenario, if money is a pressing concern for now, you can always accept this offer first to have income and continue applying. As and when a more suitable offer comes up, it's pretty acceptable for you to move on.

Wow I'm facing the same situation now. I mass apply to jobs I see on careers@gov, because I have no specialisation. I wonder if this is why I don't get any response from them at all. Could it be that I try my luck for every one that I am eligible for and hence the hr got turned off?? Job application is making me crazy
