Training would comprise OJT, shadowing the experienced officers, and defensive training for officers in enforcement branches. Not too sure about equipment given.

And are frontline/ enforcement branch entitled to extra allowance like risk/ shift?

The only time when they ask you would have been during the interview ie your preference. Subsequently, you do not have a choice as to where they post you to. Its all based on manpower needs and availability of vacancies. Just a few months back, new officers used to be all posted to either enforcement/frontline branches for 6 months before being rotated to other branches, but there has been a change recently.

Enforcement/frontline branches with shift are entitled to shift allowance, and maybe risk allowance depending on which branch it is.

Senior officers - people with university degrees. Junior officers - people w/o university degrees. They are on different schemes.

You can refer to the org structure on Customs website for an overview of what the division does. In short, enforcement is mainly conducted by the intelligence and investigation department.

Yes but not all units in checkpoints - most though, offer shift allowance as they do shift work.

HR checks

Hi everyone. I am from the private sector and have received verbal offers from 2 gov agencies so far. I heard that if you are currently in a gov agency and are moving to another gov agency (gov to gov), HR will contact the HR of your current gov agency to do reference checks. But if I am from private sector, will the HR of the gov agency still contact the HR of my current private company to check? And if they do, will they ask for my permission first?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes they do reference checks with privacy companies too, it’s a regulation by Vital and Govt HR depts to do reference checks regardless of whether your past employment is govt or private sector. And no, they don’t need your permission because when you apply for the post via Careers@Gov or the direct agency website, you have already consented to them conducting background and employment checks
