So, this made me rethink my career choice. I'm thinking of doing secondment and leave the school setting for a few years. Otherwise, is to take my CONNECT PLAN next year and leave this system entirely. Should I go for secondment first? And if yes, will my pay be readjusted or remain the same?

secondment doesn't cause ur salary to be adjusted, you're still an EO

Lately SLs have been pushing for people to go on secondments and attachments. They say it's for you to "take a short break". By if you think long enough, you'll be able to guess the real reason why.

Anyway I do know of a person who did so. No change to salary I think. It did seem to be a bit of a break (while other colleagues had to scramble to cover this person's duties). But after returning, the person also left service within the year lol. In overall, it kinda feels like a waste of time if you're still gonna resign in the end. And you're gonna dread returning to your real work after that anyway.

How about making it a new year resolution to leave on the dot after the last period ends everyday? That should provide for ample rest.

Reason is obvious. Ministry is still pushing to cut headcount due to the same old spiel: "excess teachers". But MOE does not practice layoffs/retrenchment, so one of the strategies is to get you to see the world outside and realise that the grass is (really) greener on the other side.

wait you're saying they're trying such ways to persuade teachers to leave?

Not surprising

HQ pushing out TWAs and skillsfuture, and min chan has specifically raised these initiatives at WPS

With such directives from the very top, management obviously need to follow, and submit names to participate in these initiatives

But it's worth going for secondments if planning to transit out of MOE eventually. It is easier to go through doors if you have one foot through the door

I will say go for open posting and learn new skills either from HQ or another agency (secondment). Because to be honest difficult for private to match EO pay if you don’t have the relevant skills except for tuition agencies. After you are in HQ or another agency/ministry, try to do well and then you can either hop from there or change to MX scheme.

It's not the official reason given, of course. But is it not effective? As a GEO3/4 you are very likely to find the outside world much more attractive than your current working conditions. Unfortunately, it does not help to get rid of the dead weight that exists in a substantial portion of our GEO5 headcount, because..

they won't even want to go. Attach outside not as good, unlike enjoying life in school as a piece of dead weight, being able to leave immediately after the last lesson and giving zero hoots about everything else.
