Chiong up the Specialist track and perform super well. Get full salary PGS to do PhD overseas. Possibly the most difficult way, but perhaps the most rewarding if you find your niche in the education service hahaha

Does anyone know what the repayment of liquidated damages are like when breaking the 3-year PGDE bond I.e interest rates, how HR approximates the liquidated damages, and when to start paying?

Thanks guys

Very high. The whole sch fees, compounded interest from the day you start NIE and the salary you get after practicum, compounded interest

So ppl will just tahan 3 years and quit

Many people face unforseen circumstances in their lives. Not everyone's life is smooth sailing, even in Singapore. And I think it's usually too personal to reveal.

There's nothing wrong with breaking the bond and starting again somewhere.

Unregistered 27-01-2023 10:51 PM

We have a trainee in the school at the moment.
It's about 100k for 3 years bond.
And u also need to pass the practicum.

Is that right? I think it was only $30k during my time and nobody would even think about bond breaking as it was an astronomical sum for most people.

Inflation is real.

Inflation is real.

Those who did the NIE degree, bond around $160k.

Overseas scholars even higher.

10% compound interest on salary and full tuition fees is no joke.

Does CONNECT Plan payout include Practicum year? I heard some say that practicum (3 months) means it's not a full year of teaching (which is total BS) and thus is considered year 0. While others are saying it counts. Can someone who just got their first payout confirm this? Thanks.

What are the reasons/excuses one can use to take npl?

Probably depends on how long you're planning to take.

1 week? 1 month? 6 months? 1 year?

Hi, I was given MI from my Jan 2023 pay onwards. I thought the MI increment only starts in April?

Sure or not? Don't just look at the total amount paid to you. Check your itemised payslip. January salary payment can contain a number of things, like OCA Team award that may be some tens or 100+ dollars per pax. Or maybe your personal claim came in.

No, it doesn't include the practicum months.

Your service only starts on your first day as a trained teacher.

My god, is it really 10% IR? Where did you find that number from? Thanks

For Teaching Scholarship (Local), I recall it was also 10%. Studied in one of the local autonomous universities only, but if I had broken my bond back then, it would have done unspeakable things to my family's finances.

Still in service, and well past my bond now.. but every year feeling more and more shortchanged.

I'm sure that at least for a scholar, the opportunities and progression for you would've been much better than an average non-scholar. You're already better off than many.

Are we allowed to apply for NPL within 3 years of transfer to a new school?

Just a note - if I remember correctly, NPL >6m means being removed from current posting (to be posted back by HR). Might not necessarily be a bad thing if you're currently rethinking things, though.

Overseas scholar also at 10%. At its peak, bond value to pay back was prolly half a mil. Many of us have felt shortchanged when comparing with scholars of yesteryears and left.

Anyone has been nominated and gone for overseas courses/workshops/seminars for a few weeks before? Probably like a regional or international event to exchange knowledge and share ideas etc.

After returning, some form of report or presentation is expected at the school or cluster level.

I'm curious as to whether going for such events boosts your progression in any way.

Thank you!

Of course.

Can place under contributions to organisation.

School>> cluster >> national >> international

Super high profile.

Can I verify the claim:
In the past, GEO3 officers can be appointed KP. But now we need to hit GEO4 before the sch can appoint 1 yr internal KP + KP interview, before appointment?
Is this true?

Unregistered 30-01-2023 07:57 PM

What was your increment like after your NIE practicum for PGDE?

True. Minimum grade now is GEO4 to be a KP. But you do not necessarily need to be internal KP for 1 yr.

Internal appointments are ok to accept if you are a GEO3. If you do a decent job (or better), you stand a chance at a B or A grade.

But for GEO4 and 5, internal appointments are just cheap labour.

Unregistered 31-01-2023 05:40 AM

If school typically appoints new KPs in July, when will they typically inform the appointees by?

Connect Plan

Hi everyone. My connect plan payout is due this year. When should I send in resignation if I intend to collect payout then leave this year?

Would sending in resignation on first day of December be safe? I would still be in service on last day of December in this case.

Pls share your thoughts. TY!
