Short intro,

Grad from NTU CS degree, interned at google data center for 6 months. Converted to security engineer then Google Security Cloud specialist. When I was 15 I created runescape bots, around 16-17 I created dll injectors for popular games... ( maplestory, etc ). So I was quite into it before I even entered uni.

anyway
Current pay: 14.5k ( annual around 200k+ with bonuses ), started at 6k when I first join
YOE: 5+ years

Every morning I'll do some quick devops task, check servers etc. Then I'll pen-test intern projects and teach them. By noon I'll have a few meetings and discuss with teams. for the most part i deal with vulnerabilities related to google services. google maps etc.

( here's a funny story, google maps used to leak people's real time location... so paparazzis would always use them to track celebrities. fixed in mid 2020 alr. )

Is there a regional security team in Singapore ? Or it’s based out of US only ?

Hedge Fund SOC vs Govt SOC

Currently working as a vendor at a soc for one of the government agencies. Just joined 3 months back. However I realized that the work is here pretty administrative and we don’t really do any forensics/investigative work.

Few days ago I received an opportunity to join a hedge fund as a SOC analyst. Would it be better for me to join them? I think that I could learn much more there considering they’re among the top targets for cyber attacks. Work includes me being part of the IR team and do a bit of threat hunting. Pay is also better but I realize it may not look good for me to leave early as I’m at risk of getting blacklisted.

Context: Fresh grad who just graduated few months back. I’m thinking which place is better for my learning and which looks better on the resume.

Just go. No point staying doing something you don't like when a better opportunity presents itself.
You can just leave the 3 mth off your resume.

Decent salary for good work life balance. Progression as per most public service roles is mainly time based on "years in service".
