Only the MC salary is accurate, +/- $1k.

The mid-Atlantic US firm salary is completely hogwash - the majority of the SINGAPORE offices of those firms pay less than the MC SG offices for equivalent bands. These firms do not follow their UK or NY pay scales in Singapore - they pay significantly less here. And why should they?

On the so-called "Cravath US firm" - there are maybe only 3 firms that pay Cravath rates to ALL their SG associates. The remaining firms pay Cravath rates to a FEW top performers, on a discretionary and individual basis and this is also subject to a year or 2 of evaluation post hiring.

Fully agree with you. The fool doesn't is just spewing **** he read on rollonfriday or something

What about the salary bands for firms like NRF, Ashurst, HSF, Hogan Lovells?

Pray tell which self respecting top US firm pays less than MC? Don’t count the local side of the shady jlv fla types, or the black box firm.

I knew someone who went to hk as a sg nq junior and earns around this much despite going in house early. But maybe because of practice area.

where does it state got exemption? Its an individual exemption so case by case basis, and not a confirm agreed exemption.

In any event, highly doubt they will exempt both exams as they need to do some sort of assessment to make some money. Also, if both exempted then every Singaporean will go and get it.

fd = functional director. Drew’s middle tier between assistant director and equity director, usually about 9-12 PQE.

Female lawyers are bad bosses. Its the case in every big firm. Indian or chinese doesn't matter.

Agree totally from my experience too. Very jumpy over small little things and everything is urgent and important. Must drop other matters to attend to partner.

Women should just stay at home and give birth to children. They make very poor lawyers.

Ignorant. We have several female managing partners, recently for the international firms in Sg.

Also, the High Court of Australia currently has a female majority for the first time.

The climate is changing.

Of course lah. Her minions Ng Joo Khin, Bernard Lui, Elizabeth Kong all got implicated. She herself got 15 month suspension.

UK law student here. How do I leverage my local big4 internship experience to land jobs at Cravath/London firms? I am only interested in money.

Whilst I don't agree with that statement about women making poor lawyers, I will also take stats from Western countries with a hefty pinch of salt.

Western countries have all sorts of politically correct unwritten diversity quotas that may skew meritocratic selection.

Case in point, Joe Biden's outright commitment to get a black female nominated to the SCOTUS.

Due to culture wars in Western countries, true meritocratic selections are often made subordinate to other priorities that are perceived to be more important such as achieving some kind of racial or gender parity to correct for real or perceived past discriminations.

Lol. Local big4 internships are jokes, mostly. Literally a waste of time. Good luck leveraging that. It’ll be like squeezing blood from a stone.

Looking at LM website, Stamford's ranks appear to hv shrunk considerably from what I rmb. Are they a competitive mid tier firm to join for corp?

Ignore what people are saying. As someone who's applied to firms in the UK, yes big four or other internships in Singapore are useful in getting vac schemes/tcs in the UK- but what matters more is your application, articulation, genuine interest in business and commercial law, and willingness to participate in open days or firms events. Also, you need to be able to sell yourself well as someone who is ambitious, a great team player, and someone who can work and be friends with people of all cultures. They also value entrepreneurship and things like running a society or doing commercial awareness competitions.

What happened to former up and coming lawyer Elizabeth Kong? Couldn’t muscle out the incumbents at CC? Or found religion and quit private practice?

Putting aside the Joe Biden example, diversity is NOT at odds with meritocracy. I’m always curious when people claim that to be the case. Without exception the people who write that are those who have never really faced structural barrier in their life and career such as being a struggling mother with kids balancing a legal career (even more so single
mothers) or being from a minority. In the domestic context, those would be men from a particular race. Just like how QCs for the longest time always were white men who just happened to deserve it on “merit”. If “merit” doesn’t take into account one’s life journey then merit means nothing at all. It’s high time we embraced the benefits of diversity in the legal profession at all levels.
