standard stable but dead end job in stat board as a poly grad, really nothing much to say

wern 25-11-2012 11:10 PM

Just wondering how long did NEA take to process your application?
I applied through their website system in Sept, up till now still no head no tail no response at all.

I already got another offer but it just comes off to me as extremely unethical for them to just ditch and disappear applicants just like that.

You join a stat board as a farmer without even a degree. What sort of career progression you talking about? Public service Division II officers pay & progression is all generic across all ministries and stat boards, i.e. stay on for 40 years and upon retirement you can get your 4k+.

There is really no need to talk about progression as a diploma in public sector.

Haha sad but true, there is no career to talk about as a Div2 officer but at least is iron rice bowl.

As for culture it depend more on you immediate boss. Good boss close one eye all slack and lim kopi together bad boss throw you to handle all the sai gang and he disappear to eat grass.

Yup that's the real world. All the bull about career planning, appraisal, job fit etc doesn't apply to low level staff. Just keep quiet, do what you're told to do at work, and be happy about getting that pay every month.

Thanks all for the information.

if ur experience is not 100% relevant after discount the rate should be ~3.4-3.6k

NEA enginner recruits are usually for freshies / <3 years exp. You went for a written test correct?

That is why your 4k expt is too high, they only budget for freshie pay. 3.6k max.

Firstly, all govt agencies have a formula for calculating salary.
with your 2.2, a fresh grad will be getting around 3k for males.
assuming your 4 years of exp is not relevant to NEA, they will add around 100 per year of non relevant exp.

that works out to around 3.5k.
there is no negotiation with govt agencies.
you are better off staying with your current coy.

Hey, if you ask so much re info on workscope progression, at least be willing to share on the range offered. as this is salary.sg website. if u not willing to share, why should anyone bother to share with you more?

Ministries are already paying 3.5k for 2:2 with NS (2012 data).
Probably can add a few hundred and work from there lor. the HR probably got spooked by the 4k figure. A 3.7 or 3.8 might be more realistic.

you are referring to the MX scheme right? and not some specialist scheme like intelligence or economist.

Just general info from MOE (teacher), MHA (Home Affairs Executive - civilian) etc website.
Civil service and stat board salary is standard across the board so it should be more or less around the same ball park.

3.5k is for 2:2 guys with ns.
Minus away $300+/- for ladies and those ppl without ns.

- must be a seasoned veteran in drinking kopi.

- a keen eye for litterbug at kopi tiam while you lim kopi

In terms of career progression, there are plenty of opportunities for growth and development.

In short, There will be 2 specialist tracks for shortlisted officers:

1. watch-water specialist (看水-传家)

This group of specialist will be deployed at strategic corners of various kopi tiam to help the duty team "watch water". They are not watching for litterbugs, they will be watching out for the district supervisor who will patrol regularly. In short, The main task of watch water specialist is to alert the team on how to tactical movement out of the kopitiam AWAY from the prying eyes of the district supervisor. The mission of this specialist is to allow the officers a peace of mind will LIM-ing kopi at the kopitiam.

2. run-road specialist (跑路-传家)

This specialist will be trained to stay alert in the car while waiting for the escaping specialist who had been slacking at the kopitiam. When all the escaping specialist have boarded the car he will speed off as far as possible from the district supervisor.

Unregistered 03-12-2012 10:30 PM

Although I assume this is suppose to be satire, I think the truth is not far.

They operate based on "FENG SHUI"

Whoever is suay suay in front directly of the NEA officer eye vision, will be in the feng shui "territory" so once you are in that zone, you will be automatically volunteered to do community service..

sounds like a good choice of "career" for those who like to trade the markets ;p
