Yes. Can step down. If still GEO, keep GEO grade.

If SEO, will go back GEO5

Part of HQ's long term plan to cut headcount.
Hired too many people in 2017-2018.

There were:
360101 EOs in 2017
39,787 EOs in 2018
33226 EOs in 2019
33104 in 2020
32752 in 2021
32154 in 2022

Expected headcount in 2023 is 31842

I was told that I have to step down and serve in my current school first before I can go for open posting. Is this right?

Thank you for the statistics.

It would seem like cutting costs and expenditure is more important than ensuring a humane working environment and quality public service.

I fail to see how this would benefit anyone and anything, when in many schools, SLs and KPs are maxing out FAJT headcount and scrambling for relief teachers/duties, and the GEOs on the ground are packed with 5-6 hours of teaching periods on certain days.

This vicious cycle seems to only end for individuals with “not happy then resign lor”, which doesn't seem to solve the root problem or the rot of the system.

Wait for some MP to bring up in Parliament. May take a few years though.

Quite sure HQ will cite the recent pay increase though. As though we had a choice betweeen same pay or less stress. Oh, we have a choice… tender

Grade is GEO3 (Mid career switch) - 4th year in service.
