For average performers who attained SEO paygrade, maybe 12-15 years, based on normal progression of 4-5 years per paygrade.

For normal teachers, to hit 8k base pay, 15-20 years. There are only 2 promotions and annual increment only 2-3%. Some get stuck at pay ceiling in between grades for a few years, and get 0 increment.

Those who recently got geo5A in my school are those in their 50s, and have been stuck at geo5 pay ceiling for many years.

Work is getting very tiring and affecting health

See what you have been doing and create a portfolio showcasing the skillsets you have outside of teaching.

If you have spent some years in service, you would have built up a range of skillsets and knowledge that is transferrable elsewhere.

Some things off the top of my head:
1. Finance and procurement. If you know how to do ITQ, gebiz, these are knowledge transferrable to other jobs in public service.

2. Events planning. How to design programmes, work with vendors to organise events. Can take on event planner roles or constituency manager role in PA.

3. Training and development staff. Write curriculum and syllabus, produce and curate training resources for corporate training. When new staff joins a company, they need to undergo some sort of courses to learn how to perform their job. And such courses are planned by training unit within HR.

4. Social work, counselling. Might need counselling or psychology qualifications though.

5. Corporate comms. If you have been involved in producing content for school website, school publications, outreach and roadshows, can highlight these skills in resume too.

6. ECG advisors in IHLs.

7. Coach/instructor if you have picked up relevant qualifications and skills via your CCA.

8. Going back to whatever area you majored in for your bachelor's, masters etc.

9. Going back to school to reskill. Know of people who made 180 degree switch and become software developers.

The list is non-exhaustive. Don't let your mind restrict you to education-related jobs. Learn from the top. If ministers can hop across drastically different roles and fields, so can you. All the best in your job search.

What to do? Afternoons all occupied by CCAs, additional classes, staff meetings, committee meetings, exam duties.

MOE allowed them to rise to power by limiting the powers of teachers and schools.

The moment you expect schools to view parents as 'customers', that's the end of it. You have to view parents not as clients but as co-workers or team members (in developing the child).

Exactly. To be fair though, there are many principals who stand firmly by their teachers and defend them against frivolous and/or unreasonable complaints from parents. That requires a high level of trust between SL and teacher though.

Of course can reject. If they dare complain, then just show evidence of scheduled lessons, CCAs, duties, meeting minutes.

All these things require our presence, but we only have 1 body, cannot be in 2, 3, 4, 5 places at once.

If really investigate, it's the KPs' and SLs' heads which will roll, since they are the ones in charged of deployment. If teachers are always deployed for after-school activities, how to find time for consultation?

There are many unreported incidents of teachers being abused by students and/or parents.
For example,
Kena scolded vulgarities by students and their parents.
Kena hit when breaking up fights
Young female teachers kena outrage of modesty

Do any of these to politicians, police, or any public officials, it's a straight to jail offence for threatening/harming public servants.

But in MOE, how often are these culprits charged in court?

Never. Because for students, our law protects the underaged. It only becomes a case-by-case basis when the crime is extreme e.g. grievous assault or murder.

Parents are also viewed as customers now. Is it really a good move to offend them?

s://.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/ex-teacher-acquitted-of-indecent-acts-with-pupils-after-judge-finds-alleged

You think the students were charged or punished in any way?

You think the ex-teacher was compensated in any way?'

Rhetorical questions, perhaps?

most teachers are already smart enough to do this... usually it just depends on the restrictions enforced by KPs or SLs...

have witnessed incidents of people getting lectured (as a group or individually)..."cannot do this, must do that"

sometimes want to work smart also cannot... with bureaucracy and rigidity in the way while still getting nagged at to "innovate" lol

No choice, government needs to win the election so they get their staff aka civil service to be civil to civilians. Sometimes I wish they were brave enough to do the right thing and teach the parents better parenting.

Maybe good to remind them that people who are in jail, cannot vote. Don't need them to win any elections.

Best is old days. Beat the **** out of the child. Frankly, its the best way to teach a child. If the child can't even handle simple insults / light beating, how the hell is he/she gonna survive in the real world?

Insults and beating? Might as well do medieval punishment too? Move on with the times, boomer, it's already the 21st century.

Learn to professionally and constructively criticise the action or the work, rather than insult the person. Learn to impose logical consequences, rather than hit to cause pain. You are educating humans, not domesticating animals.

The real world doesn't need insults and beating. If you are a boss and treat your subordinates like that, please retire.

The driver really got balls. "Luckily" for him it seems like it was a personal laptop (since the driver could gain access to her account and read her files), rather than the SSOE laptop.

If it's SSOE laptop the driver really hoseh liao. Jiak x2 sai because it's government property.

O' wise one, what logical consequences do you recommend in cases of theft, assault, outrage of modesty, and at the same time provide justice to the victims?

Please kindly enlighten us with your professional wisdom.

Insults and beating help to bring justice to theft victims? Did you accidentally mix something wrong into your vape liquid?

I didn't realise this was a thread about legislative or legal careers.

To answer your question, obviously the solution is to sentence all of them to death by firing squad. Stupid boomer.

Unregistered 26-05-2023 04:46 PM

will it be unfavourable towards an officer during ranking if he/she

- rejects workload due to already being overloaded
- expresses interest to leave the school via open/closed posting, further studies, secondment etc?

it would be helpful if real truthful responses by those who have sat through ranking can be provided...rather than just politically correct (by-right) answers of what should be done during ranking

i am also curious as to whether the input of geo4 and 5 KPs will really be taken into consideration during ranking

Unregistered 26-05-2023 06:05 PM

These are all questions that you can answer yourself.

If you reject workload, consider the impact of your other work. Is your other work making impact that meets the expectation at the appropriate column in your KRAs? If you believe so, explain clearly in your EPMS form and convince your RO during your mid-year work review and your various conversations. Bottom line: impact is what matters. If you reject workload and this directly causes a visible or measurable decrease in impact of your work, don't expect a B or A grade.

If you are going to leave, are you leaving on good terms or bad? Do you go around telling everyone that you can't wait to f off from the school because of (insert person/people you don't like)? Or do you explain that you are leaving to grow and develop yourself in other areas so as to contribute better to education yada yada? Do you leave the bridges intact, or do you light them on fire when you confirm that you are leaving?

No comments on ranking. Ranking panel behaviour differs from school to school, even if they adhere to all procedures and regulations.

Please provide an answer then.

Otherwise just fluff, enabling the next generation of criminals and teaching them that they can act with impunity.

Well, these are actual crimes that are happening in schools on a daily basis.

So the victims are supposed to be when the person who harmed them are let off with counselling?

If someone gets beaten up in public, have their things stolen in public, or kena outrage of modesty in public, the culprit goes to jail.

Meanwhile for victims of such crimes which happens in schools, the culprit is let off with mere counselling.

So much fairness. So much respect for the law.

if only consequences were logical, and they were imposed.

How many times are the rules in the student handbook actually enforced, or bend to give offenders 2nd, 3rd, 4th or then nth chance at the expense of others in a school community?
