Query on expected salary

Sounds like words of wisdom from HR. When Mindef HR calls to asks you about expected salary, is this number going to be inflated later upon proper calculation and NS consideration? Not talking about the offer after site preview. Nowadays they do call high potential candidates after PT.

Compare Apple with Apple

That sounds alot. but then at the same time, some say is 2.6 some is 2.8 but i believe each job position got their own salary scale right? Like for eg, if its 3k, u ask for 2.8, they will still give u 3k because thats the lowest point (3k, and there is also a highest point) in the salary scale under its policy, cannot anyhow give so sure got one amount is the correct one.

but if its 3.5 for a hr position then quite worth because HR degree holders, no work exp can only start as a HR recruiter first. Usually hr jobs on job portals, only hr recruiter can join as no experience. No such thing as hr learning and development entry level job,no experience needed or compensation and benefits specialist, no work experience needed.
Also, hr recruiter dont really require a degree (o level cert also can be one) to be one (something like marketing/business cert, dont need marketing cert to do marketing etc) so no exp hr recruiter job for degree usually is around 1.8 to 2k basic.

so if its 3.5, thats like two times more sia ,the salary (1.8 x2)

Buddy you seem to be comparing apples and oranges. If you intend to compete using a degree, for diploma jobs, naturally you will be paid diploma salary. If you want to do the work of a recruiter, you may consider being a recruitment consultant that pays commission per headcount. Those agencies prefer degree holders and are willing to pay accordingly.

If you compare the package of a recruitment consultant, 3k is basic pay. Commission can double it. Then we are comparing Apple with Apple. However job security is non existant.

Yes, each field has its salary scale. But in this sense ministry never low ball. If u put 2k they will calculate accordingly and pay u the minimum 3.5k the system says u deserve. Stat board for sure loves to low ball, especially if their financial statement is consistently in the red.

hmm i know what ur talking about but i actually tried applied jobs since last year already 100 over jobs. so far i havent see a HR graduate (degree), totally no work experience allows them to get 3k basic monthly for recruiter or hr entry level position eh? While the dx9 allows no experienced hr graduates to apply for and offers around 3k for lowest amount they will receive.

That's why i was wondering why u mentioned about apples vs oranges haha..

Like on the job portal, even for HR degree holder, no experience, the job salary range is around 1.8k to 2k basic based on what i saw (for HR). And the degree and diploma pay for hr personnel dont differ much, is like the same, 1.8 to 2.0k .. Which is why my assumption on Hr recruiter dont need degree to be one, which is why the 1.8 to 2.0k salary range.

For the 3k basic monthly salary u talking about, i have seen jobs that offer this amount but it is based on things like 3-5 years work experience hr degree holder. and those like 1 to 3 years probably is like max mid 2k range (even for HR generalist position)

The real job scope will be revealed at the interview. Mindef is a very risk adverse organization. They want people who can react during crucial times, and they are willing to pay good money for this readiness 10% of the time. But I don't deny the possibility that indeed what you say may come true!

MINDEF never posts the real job scope. They disguise it under a title that mortals can relate to. To make matters worse, sometimes when u step into office to meet your RO, you may get new instruction that actually we need you to do this.... not that... Then after 3-6 months of hypertension clearing PT, G50, just do... , resigning is a bad idea as peak hiring season is over. Maybe that's why u don't understand what I mean by Apple to Apple. Sorry for confusing you

Not sure why, the HR roles that demand for a degree holder I come across are not so lowly paid..but friends in HR have told me that HR is sunset job already. Everybody invest in software and force staff to go into system to do claims. So each organization now only hires 1 with brains maybe director, then 1 or 2 executive to be the helper to open door, prep for interview, photocopy etc, so I understand your POV, how to pay helper well to do menial tasks?

I'm suggesting headhunting/executive search companies like Kelly, Recruit express, I'm absolutely sure no experience also can. Just need you to be willing to sell. The danger is, you are walking the plank every month praying to hit sales target

Do see the above replies in bold. I am not in HR it's just my noob opinion.

ya i saw recruit express, basic salary even for degree holder,no experience at all also around 1.3k to 1.6k like that.

Hi, been a week since my interview and still no news. Saw many posts saying how they called back within days if successful. So I suppose it's a no-go?

well, you may not be their 1st choice candidate but you still do have a chance if their 1st choice turns down the offer. As many posts here have mentioned, no news is good news.

I agree. Don't lose hope, but on the flip side don't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't be silly and reject other good offers. If one comes along, grab it. After all Mindef still needs u to go for site preview which is round 3, after round 2 of sales talk with the commander. After that still have round 4 which is clearance. Clearance you cannot control, so just pray. Sometimes people already worked 3 months at another company then Mindef invite to sign on the dotted line.possible especially if you are second choice and the first choice candidate really took their sweet time to consider and reject.

I know of someone who waited 3 weeks between IV and site. Commander said he was overseas duty for 2 weeks.
