Why not aim higher like MD?

Unregistered 08-09-2018 07:51 AM

I have 4.5 years of experience in private sector compliance drawing 5k per month with 4 months bonus and 1 month AWS.

Is MAS able to give a 20% increase with same bonus?

Chances of interview and rank/pay?

Hi all, need expert advices here.

My profile: 35yo no NS, 11 yrs of work experience and 10 years is in FIs. 9 yrs in banks doing processes improvement across the bank's (work with compliance, legal and business etc) and the current 1 yr doing project mgmt. Am drawing 8k pm now.

I applied for a role under banking supervision (AD/DD), indicated as staff referral and put my friend's email.

1) how high are my chances to be called for interview?
2) what is the likely rank / grade they may give me?
3) will I suffer pay cut?

Thank u in advance for the kind souls who responded :)

I think MAS will try to match your last drawn but not increment. They may give you a lower package.

I got this information from my MAS friend.

I am getting about 6.2k with AWS for 4 years experience. I will need 7.5 to 8k to go to MAS. Dont think they can afford this for my years of experience.

Anyone has any idea how long will it take for MAS to call shortlisted candidates for interview after submission of resume online?

For mine, it took 3 weeks. Anything more than a month can be considered as unsuccessful.

For the position that I applied, there were 2 rounds of interview. From the time I applied till I signed the contract, it took slightly more than 2 months. The timeline as follows:

- 3 weeks after I applied online --> Got a call to go for an interview one week later
- 1 week later --> 1st round of interview
- 1 day later --> Got a call to go for second interview which was one week later
- 1 week later --> 2nd round of interview
- 2 days later --> Verbal offer
- 3 weeks plus later --> Signing of contract

Nowadays if you can get 16 months pa u can laff liao
Grp bonus ard 2 months on avg. so pb 1-2 months norm for avg performer
If economy no gd then grp bonus reduce

Hmm..how recent is this info? When I left MAS more than 5 years ago, they used to give group bonus of 2.5-3 months. Seems higher than the 2 months in recent years?

PB was also higher at around 2.5 -3.5 months.

There’s no 13 month.

So around 5 years back, annual package was around 17-18 months.

What’s the annual package these days?

Insider info: MAS bonus has been removed from 2019 onwards. Moving forward it will only be 14-15 months package. Standard 12 months + PB of 2-3 months.

Don't be too happy at being offered higher pay, it has been artifically inflated to compensate for reduced bonus.

So will there a once off increase in base salary, ahead of the 2019 changes?

I don't think there is any increase. It is merely splitting up the bonus into 12 months to pay you.

Last time: 5k monthly, total package 18 months = 90k per annum
New pay: 6k monthly, total package 15 months = 90k per annum

More like 13-14 months for avg performer. PB Quantum reduced since large part of grp bonus now form part of base pay.

I am wondering where people get the impression that 18 months package was the norm. Perhaps that is true at early 2000's or till early 2010's.

The last few years had always been about 15.5 months average, for an average performer.

With the salary package modified to removed the bonus at Dec which is usually 2 months+ abit. Yes, the reality is 1.75 months for average performer.

which means 12+1.75 = 13.75 months salary package is what you can expect for an average person.

Unregistered 05-11-2018 08:45 PM

So does MAS pay well for midcareers? If MAS offers an Associate position for someone 3,4 years of exp, how much should he expect?

that sucks because you receive lower Employer CPF contributions

Typically for Associate range is anything from 3k to 4.5k.

Type 1 - No Degree
If you have 3-4 years experiences w/o degree, likely 3-3.5k

Type 2 - With Degree
If you have 3-4 years experience w/degree, likely 4k and above.

Are MAS Officers considered civil servants and eligible for those year end AWS bonus declared recently? Understood from here that MAS has wide discretion and does not pay 13th month. So just wondering.

MAS is under SB (s://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statutory_boards_of_the_Singapore_Government)

All SB are considered Public Servants.

For Civil Servants, typically are directly working for govt. For example ministry of manpower (MOM), ministry of health (MOH), Mindef, etc.

s://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_civil_service

Back to your question, MAS salary package is now basic + performance bonus. This is in line with Banking industry.

MAS only have 1 bonus, which is performance bonus.
A general benchmark is 1.5-2 months for average performance.

Policy changed somewhere Q3

Pay range is quite big.

Technical questions are typically asked in first interviews with Directors and DD.
In Ops probably more on the hands on work and strategies you adopt for operational excellence.

People with AD Rank could be anyone with 2.5 years of experiences all the way to say 20 years it is possible if they didn't manage to get up to AD.

A super big range would be 4.5k to 12k* (i.e Those aunties worked for 20+ years, still at AD. not holding appointments but senior specialist)

Do note there is only 1 PB now, which is ~1.5 mths for average performer.

Anyone knows how accurate is the status on the career gov portal?
If unsuccessful, will HR inform of the final outcome through email or just by status update thru the portal?
