If you are a ICT grad, it's better to join a tech company to work and learn from real tech people. But if you have a strong will to join public service, then go for Govtech instead.

According to my friend, tesa has super high turn over rate because the culture and the boss is toxic. The demoralization can be felt within weeks you are there because the boss has anger management issue and has the habit of "name and shame" you infront of internal and external parties. It just makes one feel so super unappreciated after long hours of working. People can't wait to leave for the sake of their mental well-being? In my point of view, i am actually quite shocked when my friend told me about such bosses because i thought such era should have long gone? And working in public service before we have a code of conduct to follow and i seriously doubted the capability of HR getting rid of such bosses.

Many people i spoke to agree that imda in general is working super long hours and is common to work past mid night because directions keep changing and so are the working document (e.g. PowerPoint) that is required to be submitted or presented to the management. It is all about amending papers and ppt to what the bosses would like it to be. The way my friend spoke about it makes me feel like, everyone is required to be a marketeer.

name and shame

those who stay are people who cannot find jobs elsewhere. If you want to learn, do you want to learn from these people who are not valued elsewhere?

Ask them direct and hard questions, like what’s the retention rate, how long staff stays? Only HR and Marketing people, are there actually Directors/ Asst Director from working groups around to talk to to understand better the work within IMDA? Can you provide the general backgrounds of the assistant director/ director for available positions? What are the working hours like, is there a worklife balance?

Just ask the hard questions, and you’ll have a sense how the culture like in IMDA

Mass exodus which includes myself started ever since TKH left and Mr Navy got parachuted there. The exodus even includes ACEs so in a way it's a sign that people got no confidence in the CE.

open house? that's just a wayang show from HR to show they are doing something. the hr team rots. when have they listened or helped staff? even their team has high turnover, speaks about the leadership

The part of unskilled bosses is a fact. IMDA is getting laughed at by many people outside because it's filled with non-tech guys despite being in charge of tech

There's a deputy dir under SS called SC. An arrogant woman who scorns those lower rank than her. Just a tiny DD but thinks she's DPM or something
