There's a shiitload of generalists without ICT background in my division. Makes me wonder why do we even need to hire degree holders in the first place when ITE grads who studied ICT would be a better fit.

Agree.
Many Dirs. do not know much about about tech, they just string words together to seem impressive. They went with this: if you cannot convince the people, confuse the people.

The implication is, the staff under such Dirs basically kept updating powerpoint slides whole day whole night and over weekends

The demoralization can be felt within weeks you are there because the boss has anger management issue and has the habit of "name and shame" you infront of internal and external parties. It just makes one feel so super unappreciated after long hours of working. People can't wait to leave for the sake of their mental well-being? In my point of view, i am actually quite shocked when my friend told me about such bosses because i thought such era should have long gone? And working in public service before we have a code of conduct to follow and i seriously doubted the capability of HR getting rid of such bosses.

Many people i spoke to agree that imda in general is working super long hours and is common to work past mid night because directions keep changing and so are the working document (e.g. PowerPoint) that is required to be submitted or presented to the management. It is all about amending papers and ppt to what the bosses would like it to be. The way my friend spoke about it makes me feel like, everyone is required to be a marketeer.

Ahhh the infamous Dir AO, super toxic boss. He ehad to undergo counseling for his bad temper when he was in Corporate Planning before joining TPO. Whenever he goes, that department is doomed to have high turnover rate. TPO had an exceptionally high turnover this year.

Oh yes the TPO Dir AO is quite a toxic boss. Heard he had to undergo counseling due to his temper in his prev dept Corporate Planning. This probably explains the high turnover rate of TPO and HCD. Many many people had left this year

Haha yes, many many left, i think 10 over people (maybe 20 also a possibility). A few left within months of joining. I believe many people came in with hope and passion but the culture and toxicity screwed it up. I am looking to leave too and will never go back to this field ever again.

not a surprise if the HR ZBL, that's what happening in the HR field, a lot of fakies pretend to be practitioners but didn't hold up their integrity as per their code of practice. they stand beside the boss rather than employees. honestly, we don't need HR, we just need an administrator to do all the admin processing.
