Banks are cutting costs on these functions ever before. Headcount are normally given to more senior roles as they need people with solid expertise. Junior roles are not granted many headcounts and are forced to work within budget, thus the reason for many contracts.
Hi thanks for your reply,

Reason i left was because it was a contract which I completed. I graduated in 2016 which was the harshest period of this brittle economy and I could not find a perm job. Wondering if this is also the case for all other fresh grads or am i the only one who has problems getting one.

I think the main thing is to like and be good in the area you are in. There are challenges in each area of work. I have been in KYC for close to 4 years and been exposed to diverse areas within this space. This include handling auditors/regulators, being in a checker role and also drafted KYC policies. I have also have some knowledge on sanctions and a bit of advisory for KYC.

There is no such thing as best prospect. It all drills down to whether you want to be a Specialist or a Generalist. Do you want to be a regional head of sanctions, advisory, TM or CDD, or do you want to be country head of AML? At the end of the day, regardless which part of Compliance you are at, if it is an area that interest you and you can perform well, you will get the best prospects in that specific area.

Its the same as getting a degree in Business Admin. Should you specialize in HR, Marketing or Economics? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter.
