it is not based on a fixed %

it's based on an absolute quantum

mine was $270 (agency wif relatively lower PBs and MIs than others)

I'm currently thinking of a career change. Hence, seeking advise here.

Joined civil service in 2009. And am wondering about my career progression.
Here's my increment details.
Oct 2009: 2,350 (drawing a lower pay due to economic recession)
Jun 2010: 2,500 (adjust back to market level)
Oct 2010: 2,900
2011: 3,300
2012: 3,600
2013: 4,000

With the completion of my big project, I was not entitled to an A nor any promotion as my director was bias and favour only those with qualification of at least second upper.I did not graduate with honours. I've to be sacrificed year after year despite contributing and performing well, due to my qualification.

I was wondering should I resign and join the Stats board after drawing my bonus next year. Am looking for an AD position or mid-level post. Im wondering if i can demand for a 10-20% pay increment in a stats board? Also, for future career advancement within civil svc, was wondering if i shld further obtain a masters.

Anyone with good advice or similar experience to share?

I'm the one who posted earlier regarding switch from mx11 to sb at ard mx12. From my experience, it's hard to get 10-20% increment by joining sb. It'll be same pay or at most 1 increment, ie abt 200 increase. As for getting a AD position, it depends on whether u r already AD (mx11) or if the SB is from the firefly families (edb etc) then AD is equivalent to senior exec in other ministries. Overall, I would say if u r switching cause u think u can contribute at higher level n perform better in the SB, u may have more opportunities to be noticed if the sb u switched to is a smaller one like mine. I was in the ministry's mx hipo scheme previously but as the ministry is huge and mx scheme is not its only scheme, so progression was slightly slower n less devt opportunity. Whereas in the SB, cause it's small, n all on same scheme, had more opportunities for devt, staff overseas trip w bosses, do high profile projects, regular face time with ceo, interact with many psls. But I must say more opportunities also means more stress, n more pple will know real substance. In my SB, there are many without honours who r in hipo scheme, similarly we had some overseas scholars who joined us and profiled themselves but end up din show their worth n not only not selected for hipo scheme but even not offered confirmation... before 1 yr contract is up, officer quickly find another agency n left.

many thanks for the replies and insights! the current civil svc im in does send me for overseas trip etc...just that, i felt i cud perform beta elsewhere and scale up the ladder faster...with less restriction of all the pre-conceived conditions unnecessarily set by my current department.

in short, would you recommend me to stay til my promotion which is projected to b in 2015? and meanwhile pursue a master?

If I'm you I will stay in same ministry until I get mx11 in ard 2015 which is still considered ok progress, if my perf had been B for past 2-3 yrs, cause once u start in new place pple will use 1-2 yrs to reassess your perf. If u leave at mx12, pple will not be sure if u haf leadership capabilities.

Ok... Thanks! Ever since I've entered the ministry... I've been getting a B. I have also assessed that if I were to stay on within my ministry. By 2015, I might earn more than 5k. It is more of whether I can tahan another yr of bias treatment, doin all saikangs... I've been leadin a team to complete the project... Just felt that I've been seriously underpaid given the amt of work and exposure... I shall see if there are any good opportunities ard...my progression is just normal... As pple who came in later than me will b gettin promoted...hence, kinda feel unjust... Given that, they do way lesser made less impact... But they are gettin promoted becos of their qualification...

But I'm intendin to jump to a higher position... Givin myself a promotion... Despite the ministry not able to... Hopefully, SB ain't that stringent...

My suggestion to you would be to keep an open lookout for higher posts in other agencies. If you are able to get a higher position and higher grade, why not? Else it will be better to stay till you're promoted.

Bear in mind that having a Masters makes not much of a difference, except that your CEP maybe higher. Also, please graduate with your Masters first before applying if you wish for the agencies to acknowledge your academic credentials.
