I would seriously rethink my offer because I won’t be comfortable at a workplace where my dressing is so heavily scrutinised on a daily basis....

I know several firms that have implemented smart casual and I believe that’s the way to go. I know this policy isn’t something to be placed as an important consideration when accepting offers but I think it says a lot about the culture of the firm.

dont be so naive and believe things that CY of all people says. the dressing expectations are perfectly fine and in line with the industry

The problem is this goes beyond dressing well - TSMP is renowned for having a toxic work environment. It's a very alpha female, sexist place which is pretty bad to work in. If you're in the industry, this is very well known.

There are 1 or 2 partners there who are worth working for - in terms of reputation. I think if you get a chance to work with those partners, it would be worthwhile to put up with the environment for a year or so, gain exp + reputation then jump ship.

im actually in the firm, and i dont believe its bad place to work in at all

if the entire legal industry is pretty alpha male, what exactly is the problem with a firm being alpha female instead? (not that it is)

when you have female partners asking for all the boys to clear cupboards and do menial office work, it's just degrading.

just saying...

it's just a weird firm from the stories i heard but maybe it works for you lol. nothing wrong.

The ship financing team and the insolvency team jumped in the last 2 years. The firm is now left with generalist construction litigation dept,a generalist corp dept and a conveyancing arm. All not very lucrative and subject to pricing pressures.

I literally have screenshots of firm-wide emails from the woman on high of that firm blasting people for not dressing well. You guys serious?

It's a toxic af firm for any normal person. If you like it it probably means you're that kind of person.
