job count is 10k now

There are 10,000 + jobs in the jobsbank now.

100sheets 28-06-2014 03:03 AM

don't understand why users without singpass can view the jobs too.
defeats the purpose of a job bank.
waste of tax payer money.

Hey guys, look what I came across from the job bank. It is for a VP appointment.

It stated the industry is maid agencies, yet the job scope is engineering and other stuff. And the pay range is $17k - $19k pm. I find it fishy.

Probably a data entry error. Maid agencies could have been mistakenly selected because it is just next to manufacturing.

Hi.. The jobs bank is in it's trial period right? Can we use it to apply for jobs? So does it mean that if we apply for government jobs now, we no longer do it at Careers@Gov?

don't think too much. the jobs bank is just a formality in order to fulfill requirements. some firms use it to advertise their brands. jobstreet and jobsdb are much more reliable.

boongaylim 14-07-2014 07:05 PM

Jobsbank is here to stay

Yeah. Im pretty happy about the jobs bank. Applied and got a few replies already! Government finally listening to us.

Unregistered 15-07-2014 10:34 AM

However, I do not wish to have read more ads originate from recruitment agencies. I would want to see more from the direct employers instead. Or else, no different from jobstreet or jobcentral.

boongaylim 16-07-2014 02:30 PM

diff b/w jobsdb and jobsbank

Hi,
1. Govt does not monitor jobsdb, but will monitor jobsbank.
2. If someone wants to hire foreners, must go thru jobsdbank. If you want only citizen/PR got for either jobsdb or jobsbank.

Unregistered 16-07-2014 04:00 PM

Jobs Bank does not replace other recruitment websites like Careers @ Gov, Jobs DB etc right?

personally, I don't see any difference from jobstreet or jobscentral.
I thought this jobsbank is only for singaporeans, but it seems like you don't need a password to view the jobs (and the email addresses which you can send your application in). you'll still get foreigners competing with you for job.

what difference does this make? how would I benefit from the monitoring?

Unregistered 17-07-2014 11:04 AM

I find it useless. Too many ads posted by recruitment firms instead of direct employers. Also, no much jobs for entry level or professionals who want to switch career.

1. You don't need a password to view jobs, but need one to apply for a job. Only Sinaporeans with Singpass can apply.

2. Jobs on jobstreet, etc, stay forever. Even when the advertiser finds a candidate, they may forget to remove the posting. On jobsbank, all postings will expire in 30 days. This will ensure freshness.

3. Once a company wishes to get an EP, MOM will ask them "20 Singaporeans applied for this job, yet you say that every single one of these was incompetent. Tell us how this can be true." Many companies are already fearing this line of inquiry.

So does it mean that companies which wish to hire foreigners will advertise on JobsDB, Jobstreet instead?

Yes and No. The purpose of jobsbank is to ensure that no Singaporeans can/want to take up the job before the company can hire foreigner. So even if they put up on JobsDB or Jobstreet, the coy still will not be able to hire a foreigner, they have to go through jobsbank, then confirm no Singaporeans apply, then are allowed to hire foreigners. But not all positions must go through jobsbank, I think only a certain percentage. So if a coy wants to hire more, they must go through jobsbank.

many of the jobs have email addresses which non-singaporeans can use to apply to the jobs too.

seriously, no one fears this question. they will just create some ridiculous requirement to prove that the 20 singaporeans do not fit the position. if a company is intent on hiring an FT, they will just post on jobsbank just for the sake of posting - just going through the motions.

A non-singaporean can apply for a job and get selected also, at the time of EP processing, MOM will exercise some control.

Many companies are actually fearing this questions. Companies that used to get employees by the planeload from India, China, Philippines are no longer getting EP in such numbers. MOM can get really rough in their questions. Looks like you need to research somewhat more.

boongaylim 22-07-2014 09:09 PM

count is 30k now

I can view more than 30,000 jobs on the jobsbank already. I think more than 1000 jobs are being added everyday. At this rate, by the National Day we might have more than 50,000 jobs on the jobsbank. Hope the stringent oversight of MOM will prevent misuse of jobsbank.

How much do they pay you to advertise here?

jljh 23-07-2014 08:10 AM

what's stopping companies from posting on jobsbank and then 2 weeks later they can also post elsewhere. And if they only want FTs, they can then toss away all Singaporeans/PR applicants or delay the selection.

100sheets 26-07-2014 10:41 PM

the jobs bank is a good way to find out which positions your company has already ear-marked for foreigners.

if HR post to local recruitment company - job is for local.
if HR post to jobsbank.gov.sg - job is for foreigner. they already have someone in mind, and they are just going through the 2 week motions since government force them too.

at least thats my experience from my company lar.

status of application in jobsbank

Hi,
I am trying to enumerate the status of application in jobsbank and the meanings.
I notice that there are New, Shortlisted, Not Shortlisted, Processed.
What other status are their?
What is the difference between Shortlisted and Processed?
Can I find out for a given position, how many are shortlisted and how many processed?

shortlisted means you are shortlisted for interview

Processed means your application for the particular position is being processed. The result is not out yet. Can be shortlisted or not shortlisted.

Anyone found job using jobsbank?

Hi,

I have. Ministry, fresh local grad 2nd upper. Are you Singaporean?

Jace.

Unregistered 29-07-2014 10:38 AM

And honestly. If you've applied for 20 and got no response for all of them. It means that your expectations are too high. Your qualifications and experience may not meet the jobs you are applying for. Try a little bit lower.

is there even a need for 2nd upper to apply govt job through jobbank? can as well apply though career@gov.

Anyone with nitec/diploma/ normal degree got shortlist/offer through jobbank so far?

Unregistered 05-08-2014 07:20 PM

Engineering diploma holder here. Grad 4 years ago. 2 years NS and 2 years work exp. Found a job with a japanese company specialising in mostly cable installation. 2.6k/mth + phone bill allowance and good insurance and benefits. Was told bonus is variable but average 2 months, depending on performance. Have not signed on the dotted line yet but I definitely will. Current job pays only 2.3k and has much less benefits.

With so many internship positions going to foreigners, they should be posting them on the jobsbank portal too...

my status with jobsbank

Hi,
I applied for 12 jobs so far.
For 3 jobs, the status is "shortlisted". Noone has contacted me so far.
For 2 jobs, the status is "processed". Noone has contacted me so far.
For 1 job, the status is "new". Easy to understand.
For 6 jobs, the status is "not shortlisted". Fair enough. Don't waste my time if you have other candidates.

Can someone let me know:

How long before these folks will contact me?

What is the difference between "processed" and "shortlisted"? Is a job application "shortlisted" first or "processed" first?

Unregistered 07-08-2014 11:53 PM

Is it just me or status of most of my applications are 'New'? Does it mean they are rejected?
