Hi All,

I'm thinking of making a career switch to compliance, looking more at AML. I've graduated from SIM a year ago with a Business degree and I don't see a clear progression in the field that I am pursuing.

Anyone here can advise on a typical day of a Compliance Officer and a prudent assumption on the career prospects for this role for someone with zero knowledge in this field?

Appreciate your valuable responses!

What are the differences between compliance and AML? AML is a subset of compliance no?

Yes, AML is a subset of compliance. Under compliance, there are still sanctions, regulatory, monitoring/testing, advisory units.

HSBC VP (actually equivalent to a AVP in other banks) = $6000 to $10000+ depending on appointment and seniority.

Ya read that HSBC's rank rather inflated. 6k-10k rather wide range..Sound so glamorous but might be a 6k VP nia

There are many people with 3 years of experience holding the AVP title, and 5 years experience holding VP titles. Of course, 5 will be the minority few that had exceptional performance reviews. Typically will be 6-7 years to be VP in HSBC. Compared to the real VP titles in other banks that require 10+ years of exp.

In HSBC, next rank after VP is SVP, whereas places like local bank, it is like VP1, next up is VP2....still a VP

Well I do know ppl who are still AVP equivalent with 10 years exp
