Honestly you do not have any other choice except ops admin exec jobs. Assuming you are an above average performer, you will need at least another 7-8 years before moving to spec is possible.

Forget about those degrees, they are useless. Just try & apply for an entry level specialist recruitment job in a MNC, your background has a decent (but not high) chance.

most global mncs dun care as long as ur hiring portfolio and track record is there. u can always buy a degree from shri once ur confirmed with a hr job, otherwise waste money.

glcs and old fashion mncs then need to get a degree first, but join this kind of co as hr waste of time & career imo.

advice

I was from HR, went on 2 years npl and was posted to do admin for 2yrs. Been wanting to go back HR.

I want to ask will company consider the 2 yrs experiences?

Also I been thinking, by next year if I am not able to land a HR job, to quit without a job. Was thinking to get a temp 6months HR job or jobs that require HR urgently if I really quit without a job.

Not sure do-able or not?

Advice appreciated.

IMO if you really want to go back into HR, try to make a switch asap. It'll be tough to justify your decision to move back into HR if you contemplate too long.

As for your prior experience, I personally think that companies would probably take that into consideration if there is a certain relevance between what your previous job scope and the position you have applied for. But that said, try to update yourself with the current legislative labour laws etc so that you can market yourself better to prospective employers even with the lapse.

As posted by the previous forummer, career advancement in MNCs are usually based on merit and a host of other factors rather than pure academic qualifications.

IMO if you're a fresh diploma holder and have the financial means, I would suggest that you pursue a degree, preferably majoring in HR first. If you do a quick browse of most HR jobs on the various job portals, having a degree is a prerequisite for most junior HR exec jobs, unless of course you do not mind applying for lower tier jobs like HR assistants or administrators that mostly require a diploma. So it's really up to you to weigh between these options.

Doesn't matter for HR administration jobs, any degree will do. Just buy the cheapest one available.

Advice please

Hi all, need some advice from you.

I graduated from local uni 1 year ago and joined as a HR payroll officer.
However, I do want to try out other HR roles such as C&B or recruitment.
I heard from my colleague that once you are payroll, you are stuck in it because it is too specialized and the skills are not relevant to other hr scopes.

Please tell me that this isn't true. I do not intend to spend the rest of my life doing payroll.
Is there any ways that payroll officer can branch out to other areas of hr?

TIA!

Associate Director or Director pay

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of the pay for an Associate Director or Director HR in one of the larger companies?

Titles don't mean anything. A senior associate / manager in specialist track can be paid much higher than a director in a generalist track.

Depends on what you mean by other roles. For specialist confirm not possible in the next few years, if its other generalist hr ops role, its very easy to switch from payroll to other hr admin work.

hello hr folks

Sorry to hijack this thread. I thought there is no other platform better than this to enquire on a job-related question.

at my workplace we have encountered quite frequently candidates who had earlier promised to join our company (someone even signed the letter of appointment) but decided to back out later.

Wondering what is your usual practice in handling such cases?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Yes i understand you are correct, in this case does anyone have any idea of the pay of a director associate director or senior in a general HR position. Just want to get an understanding of the current payscales in Singapore in general HR positions.

No you do not understand. Titles don't mean anything.

It all depends on how inflated the titles are between different companies. A Director can range from anything as low as 10k to as high as 40k in a MNC. It largely depends on the scope of work that the person is involved.

Lets not even go into those GLC/CS/SME where Directors are just dished out randomly to junior level staff like cheap business cards. You need to be specific which company you are looking at before someone who has knowledge over there can tell you.

Unregistered 30-10-2013 09:50 AM

HR

Thank you are correct the title does not co-relate to the salary. I am looking at places like Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa if anyone has any idea? Thank you for your kind response and direction. Appreciate any guidance.

If for HR Director as in head of department best guess is 30-35k basic for MBS. MBS probably pays little higher than RWS.

The head of HR department for Genting SP (RWS owner) is Mrs. Seah-Khoo Ee Boon. According to public disclosure report which you can find on their website or SGX, her total pay in 2012 is between S$750k-$1mil. If you take the mid-point best guess is roughly $875k p.a.

I expect the same position in MBS will be higher, probably in the low end of $1mil+ annual.

My best guess in this case is the RWS HR Director is on ~600k basic salary + ~300k variable bonuses / stocks

HR Sentosa

thanks for that information, will check the financial report disclosures. I think the equivalent title in MBS will be Senior VP, as we said previously Titles are loosely dished out in Singapore and have no co-relation. Essentially this is refering to the department head.

Head of HR at MBS if we use the RWS one as a guide, total package could be in the region of $1.2-$1.5mil. Basic should be in the region of 800-900k and bonuses/stocks 400-600k which sounds about right for a SVP of a US MNC like Sands.

Does your contract have a no-show clause? if not, it is very hard for you to do anything about it. since he/she has not started work with your Company, the question of employer-employee relationship may not arise under a contract of service.

i recommend your HR to include a no-show clause (i.e. if he/she fails to report for work, he/she will be liable to pay a sum equivalent to two week salary in lieu of notice)

if you have a no-show clause and the candidate backs out and does not want to pay, the option of asking your legal counsel to take over this case to the courts is open to be used.

i hope that helps.

I'm from a HRIS background and I reckon that my chances of converting myself into a specialist role (C&B, LD etc) is quite low. How's the career like for a shared service / HR ops role in terms of progression and salary?

Unregistered 29-11-2013 01:49 PM

HR exec in hotel or marketing firm better?

Personally, I don't find that it is impt for a HR manager/HRBP to have ops or payroll experience. In fact, most HR Managers do not have ops or payroll experience as they might come from different specialization.

I must say there's good prospects working in a big 4 accounting firm. But I have always been interested in hr and performance measures, including employees retention, for company.

Currently I deal alot with expatriate employees and much time is spent communicating with hr people of mncs.

I wonder what are my chances of getting a hrbp job. Any advices from here.
