Dk why some of u have the idea that the big3 accounting grads in big4 are smart. I have met quite a couple of them who are not very bright and requires me to seriously hold their hand to get them to complete their stuff. Sometimes I rather have experienced hire associates from msia in my team instead. Book smart does not equates street smart pls. And some of them are really socially awkward and a bunch of weirdos.

Maybe cuz in the past, there was the perception that it was harder to get into accounting courses at the Big 3 universities (requiring better grades), but it's no longer the case in recent years (from 2020/2021 intake).

Maybe the Big3 accounting graduates wouldn't do phantom vouching?

Partners still see Big3 accounting graduates honest and hardworking.

All or most AAA students went into computer science or IT lol. Well big 4 get what they pay for.

How come audit associates and audit seniors and audit managers and senior managers and partners all have to be responsible for the billable hours? So difficult job.

I see civil servants or public servants work 22 days also no need stress such thing as billable hours one.

Job budget is managers job scope.

Associates and seniors don’t have to care in my firm.

not op, but in addition to the 3, there are also graduates from SIT, SUSS, RMIT, UOL, UTAR, Sunway college, Universiti Malaya, University of reading etc etc.. so no the 3 local unis are not the norm.

More exemptions for SCAQ lor and more exit choices after grad. But if you choose audit, it's best if you don’t need to study so much. Private uni (2 yrs) and ACCA will be a faster path.

yup if choose uni path, then in future a lot of path to walk
can go AGO, MNC, commercial, audit

But if study ACCA then, is just specialised path which is accounting or audit or tax

Can someone clarify the professional experience requirement for SCAQ.

"A minimum of 3 calendar years (with at least 450 days worked in these 3 years) of practical work experience with an ATO is required"

Does this means zhun zhun 31 Jul 20x1 to 31 Jul 20x4 or does it mean 450 days worked between 31 Jul 20x1 when you started and 1 Jan 20x4 as a start of a new calendar year?

I had the same qns as you and called ISCA last week. They confirmed its minimum full 3 years i.e. 31 Jul 20X1 to 31 Jul 20X4. 450 days is just to ensure you actually did work 450 working days in the 3 years.

Thinking of giving up on CA because of this requirement, have a few job offers alr and idw to stay until sep lol

Nah, last tjlime no ppl want convert becos its an extra cost to yourself or the firm. Its just when they say local u last cut off is 2017 then a lot ppl faster go convert..

provided u think its relevant for u. Worked more than 10 years before apply for full membership. Cut off is 2017 for local u lol. We just need to work 3 years and do ethics etc and can apply for ca alrdy. Now is a lot of extra requirements which are useless. Killing the local u intake. For ppl from developing country only.. or those local with no better option.

Benefits: Looks good on resume lor and some job listings require professional qualification.

But depends on ur job scope, u see if it’s worth paying $457.80 to ISCA.
Best if ur coy sponsor

I also kept my CA SG for resume reasons - I alr have a local Uni degree, but with the CA, it looks more impressive

My company doesn’t sponsor such thing.

I also not looking for job, resume hasn’t been updated since forever ago

Like no benefit..

CA is not a licence

s://isca.org.sg/standards-guidance/audit-assurance/standards-and-guidance/signing-convention

Be aware of what you can and cannot sign.

Unregistered 14-04-2024 03:45 PM

Is CFA better than CA?

Unregistered 14-04-2024 04:30 PM

Unfortunate list:
- Enrolment batch between 2016 -2018 (transition batch) who had plenty of better course options but chose accounting.
- Enrolment batch 2019 who have better course options but chose accounting.
- Graduated batch after the cutoff in 2017 or those who missed the cutoff for conversion.
- Graduated batch before 2022 after 2017, who have to clear an additional professional papers (standard 5)
- Graduated batch from 2021-2023 who have no better career options but to serve the full 3 years in b4.
- Those who have cleared 3/4 papers but want to leave before the 3 years mark (neither here nor there).
- Those who have completed CA SG but don’t require it for the job or are not company sponsored.

Seems like accounting is getting more and more unpopular.

Unregistered 14-04-2024 05:05 PM

Y'all still bothering with CA for job applications? Referrals are the way to go when you have enough work experience. Good jobs at good companies don't get advertised and are already filled when advertised for SOP purposes.
