Private sector is the place to go for big money and bonuses. MD in bank vs civil service super scale, MD wins hands down.

Year end bonus will revise down one. Mid year is not indicative of the true picture.

This is true for most private sector jobs you get into the right company and role.

Some people will argue that civil service is stable and you dont have to worry about retrenchment in your 30s to 50s.

My personal opinion is not to start off at civil service when you are young. Your earning potential is the greatest from 20s to 40 yrs old.

It is important take some risks and not be fearful of retrenchment.

My company pays well but is always restructuring. Redundancy package is also good.

Bro if too high then opposition will say now ordinary citizen austerity Liao, you civil servant still dare to 0.5 mth in such a grim outlook?

If you put at 0.3 mth then the civil servant not happy.
0.4 to 0.45 is optimal.

Say got decreased growth, but still confident of future.

Very well thought out.

Just to further clarify. If a person resign in first week of July , and last day of service is 2 August, will he/she be eligible for mid-year bonus?

No. The person needs to stay one month after the payment. The only exception is the person leaving due to retirement or alike. Those who resign within one month after payment or dismissed will not receive.

There are so many super scalers. Each company has one MD right? You should compare MD with PS. Entry level superscalers should be compared with department head. Eg VP of Marketing, VP of Sales etc.

Best job is non-head super scalers. Those "2Director", "Senior Advisor", "Senior DD". Remuneration vs responsibility really mismatch.

I have 2 conflicting guesses.

Bad bonus cos of recent economic collapse in Singapore;
Good bonus cos of soon election.

You think?

Tiagong 0.2 month

Unregistered 22-10-2019 09:41 AM

Likely to be 0.5

Unregistered 23-10-2019 11:58 AM

Chia lat.

Straits Times just reported 2019 growth cut to 0.5% by IMF. Last year it was 3+% and year end bonus was 1mth.

For 0.5% growth, if you divide 1month by 6 or 7, you get 0.1 to 0.16 months of year end bonus.

Sorry no Christmas presents for friends and family this year.

Unregistered 27-10-2019 07:12 PM

Prolly ard 0 6 to 0.7

Totally wrong. I got insider news, they are looking at 0.6-0.7

You could be right. Its a reasonable estimate. Even during the last recession in 2009, we got 0.25, so a 0.1 is highly unlikely

Unregistered 31-10-2019 10:37 PM

Don't overspend

Unregistered 01-11-2019 03:55 PM

Will the merit increment and merit bonus be affected by the weak economy? Sorry for asking such a newbie question.
