My wife and I are happily retired in JB. We live in our nice JB house and rent out our fully paid up 5 room HDB flat. We get $3,000 (RM7,500) every month from our flat rental. We spend only RM4,000 per month. We are in our mid fifties. Life is good, thanks to our investment in our HDB flat (now worth $700k). Our HDB flat is our precious asset which will continue to appreciate.
