just to provide a different perspective...
in recent years, the number of KPs are becoming super saturated...getting appointed is also becoming very competitive. its the same for STs as well. certain schools have nearly 25 KPs, not including STs and SLs
if u are just a farmer, your contributions and portfolio need to be even more impressive over a longer period of time to succeed in the interview
your RO and SLs must strongly support and push for u
u are considered lucky if there is a vacancy and the timing is just right for u to fill it
the interview questions are also seemingly becoming more challenging and intense despite the "preparation" - u must be able to react quickly and answer appropriately
some Ps may also just mass nominate people and "try" to see if the interview succeeds
there have also been potential KPs who failed interviews too - its uncommon, but nowadays I wouldn't classify it as "rare"
