I work for some GLC for years, with a degree and now I'm somewhere in the principal Engineer phase making around 6k+ with the usual government linked bonus and PB.

Recently I went out with a group of guys and one of them is a diploma holder slightly older than me in a principal Engineer role as well. I accidentally saw his letter of employment while he was packing his stuffs, he was trying to apply for his wife's citizenship so I know that letter is recent. And I was shocked to see that his basic is 8.4k and his taxable income last year was about 120k

How do these diploma holder engineers get this type of pay? I know he works in MNC but the gap is really shocking. What's the point of us spending that 4 years taking that engineering degree for?
Just to wake those MNC folks up. In a GLC, given 'Engineer A' Diploma holder with 15 years experience, well liked by colleagues, bosses and customers. Very capable with loads of good track records, successful projects and products. Brought in 10 million dollars revenue last year. Many people feel that he's the best leader in their department

Given 'Engineer B' Degree holder, not well liked, toxic employee. Poor work attendance, like to throw MC and is frequently late for work. Not capable, sometimes don't know what's he doing.

Who do you think will promote to become the next Project manager?
