The rest of the contributors are right. Technically, no tangible benefits to a redesignation.

But I encourage you to look at it this way. Usually, they cannot promote because of various factors such as eligibility (2Bs in 3 years), etc, but they need someone to fill the role and you look like you can.

So when you are next eligible, you are first in line. When you are ranked for PB against your fellow peers, people performing at the next level almost certainly will get the Bs.

So not true that it's all for naught.
