Another perspective. The verbal offer is probably the range and based on typical formula calculations and vetted by HR (maybe a DD or D). Usually this is the norm and the Approving Authority usually don’t comment too much. However there are some circumstances the AA will comment pay too high. Maybe internal info they know budget going tight eg they pushing for higher headcount, or even PSD directive. Or the AA is new and wanna yaya and comment and you just unlock. Or the HR failed to see a factor and spotted by the AA. Or also possible HR miscalculated but corrected after discussing with you. They not gonna admit it. If they still offer you I say the change has got nothing to do with you. You just assess if the revised offer is good for you.

Just to declare before any guys decided to flame me, hr verbally offered me the job with $$ discussed initially. I accepted and the hr went to reach out to my manager.
I can accept the fact if the hr decided to u turn on me due to my issues (eg bad appraisal from manager, issues with my clearance, discrepancies with any info I provided). But apparently, none of the issues happening is my fault, and hr is not disclosing anything else, except offering me a (worst off) revised offer.
I’m not asking for any pity, but just wanted to check if anyone else encountered similar experience before, and if there are any solutions I can do at this stage to savage this. TYVM.
