Lawyer is a douche, no doubt.
But just cause someone's a douche doesn't mean you don't have a responsibility to yourself to make sure your interests are protected.
I'd take the wasted 6 months as school fees for a lesson in life. It'd also go a long way in terms of character building to accept some responsibility for what has happened.
