While more stellar candidates are being selected to teach, it doesnt mean that all of them survive for long either. There are cases of ex-students of top sec schs and JCs with good degrees, posted to neighbourhood schools, and for lack of a clearer term, end up quitting during practicum / a year into service because they found the students too dumb for someone of their calibre. With stellar backgrounds, grades and ability to convince interviewers about their passion to teach, getting the job wasn't difficult, but ultimately, passion alone didnt suffice. You cant choose a specific school or the background of your students. You can't choose who their parents are or their life experiences. This is just about students, you still have colleagues, bossess, parents, outsiders, etc

So, dont go in with your eyes closed or believing moe recruitment ads wholesale.

Try relief teaching in a few schools first. If you like it, apply for a teaching position. If relief teaching is hell, then turn, run away and dont look back.
