Maybe if he graduated 10 years ago . IT has long replaced Arts & Social as dumping ground.

I don't even need to check the charts to know bankers and traders are still the best paid .

A good example will be this private banker, I don't think even with a monthly salary of $20k can afford a lamborghini, Porsche Carrera and BMW M5.

The fast and the modest?

Rubbish!

You are right. This list only shows the average. Top lawyers with 15 years and above experience (whether litigation, corporate, real estate, etc) make anything between S$60k to 150k per month. I am discounting those top 100 or so Singapore lawyers who make upwards of S$200k per month. Same with top accountants. Bankers? Even more! Top surgeons and other specialists can easily make S$200k to S$1m a month. But you're talking here about the top 3-5% of each profession.

And you're right. No one can afford a Ferrari or Lamborghini (even second or third hand ones) with S$20k per month. You're looking at at least S$100k per month before you even think about exoticars. Unless, of course, you choose to own and stay in one small cheap condo and spend all your money on the car! These cars are not cheap to maintain (service, petrol, insurance, road tax, etc) and you need at least another car because you don't really drive these cars to work (although I know of a few who do). And you don't want one of your cars to be a Lambo and the other to be an Altis right? So, a Lambo/Ferrari plus a Cayenne/Range Rover Sport/M3/M5/C63AMG/7-series/S-class, etc. Go calculate the maintenance on the cars alone! And you don't want to be staying in Sengkang with your Ferrari/7-series right? So, que the condo in Ardmore/Orchard/Sentosa Cove/Marina Bay area, the bungalow in Bukit Timah, etc? And you cannot be wearing your Seiko driving your Aston right? So, in comes the AP Royal Oak Offshore, Pateks, Lange, etc. And so on and so on ...

Of course, you can just be a motor head and plonk all your money on a used Ferrari/Lambo. In which case, you probably still need to earn at least S$30-40k month!

So, if I'm a freelancer making the same pay as a doctor - is it possible? Of course it's possible, because I may be a top earning freelancer and the doctor is just an average doctor. And serious, lots of freelancers make more than me.

Similarly, above-average engineers, consultants and even teachers can earn what an average / median "managing director" earns.

Btw, is it true that consultants "con" and insult? If I know of one consultant who broke the law and went to jail, does it mean all consultants are criminals?

Well, the average income in Singapore is about 3k. How is it possible that people can afford to buy cars, LVs and condos? That's because 3k is the average. At one end of the spectrum, you have people living in extreme poverty. At the other end, you have the super rich who buy lamborghs.

Similarly, the list above is just a list of professions that are sampled by the ministry. And the quoted earnings are median earnings. In case you've forgotten your maths, "median" means "in the middle". If you line up 100 specialised surgeons by their pay, the middle one will earn that $12,750 quoted. The best one may earn 1 mio or more, like those plastic surgeons and heart surgeons. And they are the ones who drive the lamborghs.

When you don't know what you're talking about, anything is rubbish to you.
