Unregistered in the manufacturing industry, the typical progression is fresh grad join as engineer, after 2-3 years promote to senior engineer and another 2-3 years become principal engineer.

in terms of the job scope difference within engineer, senior & principal is almost the same. just that maybe the principal got a little more years exp and can help to coach the newcomers. this kind of PE can get 5k already not bad.

In a large MNC there should be only a few of them for a particular subject and I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are paid >US$300k annual.

But if you look at the situation right now a lot of very junior people with <20 years experience, hardly any mastery in their field and zero experience in really dealing with large scale enterprise global projects are now calling themselves principal engineers. In my company we have at least 200 ‘principal engineers’ as it is just a rank that is below manager. Most of them are making abt 5k and they are just normal engineers, not experts in the true sense.
Your explanation is very correct. I know people in Micron and Global Foundries titled PE with 5 years of experience.

The salary of PE depends on experience. If you are PE with 4-5 years of experience, salary is 5.5-6 k. If you have more than 10 years experience, maybe 7k +. Also depends, if you are in R & D pay is more, if you are in production, little less.

How much a principal engineer earns per year (excluding 13th month bonus) ? Is the pay sufficient for a condominium rent and other house running cost? I will be living with my wife and 6 months baby.

Appreciate your help..
Share with us which company is offering you. I heard lot of singaporeans are hunting such post for months too.

Manufacturing industry, even for wafer fabs, is.A Sunset industry in singapore.

Do a google search for straits times article on news of foundries. It has been a LONG while since the journalist bothered to allocate any space to this industry.

While this may not be true elsewhere, it's true in sinagpore

I would say 5 to 8k is a reasonable range. Ignore the other absurd posts.
