MTI is a place for the cream of the crop, much like MFA and EDB. The officers are mostly very bright and hardworking, and they receive great exposure to the who's who of public administration from all over the world. Naturally, the downside to this is that there is very poor work-life balance, especially if you're in the policy desks on the Trade side. Even more so if you're in the most high-profile desks, where working weekday nights and weekends almost every week is the norm. Turnover rates across MTI are very high as well. Overall, it's a good place if you want a challenging and fulfilling career. MTI officers are well-respected across the WOG, and landing a job in other agencies thereafter should be pretty easy. But if you have family commitments or just want to cruise through life, then it probably isn't the place for you. |

Bumping this thread. What's the current rate for fresh grads and expected increment & bonus for avg performers? Is the culture still very scholar centric and hard to get promoted for non-scholars? |

Unregistered | MTI is generally a fast-paced Ministry. I would think you'd need to be an efficient officer for the procurement role and of course, any prior experience in procurement in the public service will be beneficial. Whether or not there's work-life balance, it depends. If you're efficient and effective, you wouldn't need to always do OT or bring your work home over the weekends. If you're looking for a relaxed and lepak workplace, MTI is not the place for you. It's a place where you can learn a lot if you are hardworking enough. | |
