there is nothing wrong earning 5k/mth. I'm just stating my POV as most of them are thinking 5k is not enff to survive in singapore. if everyone has the same mindset as you then no one will be comparing finance vs engineering alr. no one will be complaining abt what the gov is doing. well, everyone has diff mindset, you continue with ur work and live a decent life while we will continue to aim high.

Aim high to reach the top , not the average group!

What are the salary for these engineers as they progress through the ladder

This time, it was full time studying with full salary and tuition paid for, some more with allowance for food and lodging. Of course I had to sign on a bond.

Now I am a technical manager leading a team of engineers. Pay wise around $200k. With wife earning another $150k, we can live comfortably, but still cannot compare with those in finance line or other professions like doctors and lawyers.

Work wise, there is quite good work life balance with the occasional high stress all nighter kind of project work. I would be lying if I say I did not ever consider changing my line of work. But after seeing some friends and colleagues who job hopped and never seem to settle, I thought I better stay on.

The stat board has been my only employer for 30 yrs, I can't say it is a bad employer. Otherwise I wouldn't last this long.

They also might experience pay cut if they were to switch companies...
