I think he is hired as sales engineer, but actually, he is an accounts manager. Basically, he is managing some key accounts. Accounts manager = sales engineer in some MNC. If your friend is not getting any commission, I think he should move on or change line. I have said many time, not everyone can be a good salesperson.

Even if we assume best case scenario of 25% gross margin, the 75k business has only GP of 18.75k. The Company still have to pay 2.2k basic + 600 allowance + 7.125k for commission + 1.5k employer CPF. That means GP – sales staff only left $9305. No way that is enough to cover all the remaining corporate & admin overheads to be profitable.

Either there is misunderstanding of the commission plan or the above story is bs.
I think he meant above certain target, then the sales guy is entitled to 9.5%. If not, this company will be going bust in no time. Seriously, some guys just like to blow things into perspective that we are being treated like "idiots".

You can imagine, if the overall company is making a loss, how can they afford to pay this guy 9.5%? Does it make any sense???

I am familiar with the O&G industry and have never heard of a company that offers a basic + 9.5% billing commission. Usually if the rates are so high there out to be a threshold before sharing commences.

Most O&G sales engineers I know of clock up at least 500k annual revenue even if they are new. That means your company is paying like 2200 x 13 + 600 x 12 + 500,000 x 9.5% = at least $83,300 p.a. for a junior sales rep that meets target!

Very interested to know what sort of products you all sell.

Last month he sold about 75k of parts to his friends or rather ex-colleagues... damn he is sneaky
